Role of pigeons in spread of ectoparasitic infestation on urban environmental condition

Abstract

Pigeons (Goluba livia L) presented common bird species in urban environmental condition. We have a numerous flock in intensive breeding, but a greatest population are free living pigeons habited near parks and street garbage places, markets, graves prin other places in which they found food and shelter. Imprinting its role in epidemiology of TBC, ornythosis or salmonelosis, those birds are called "flying rats". Role of pigeons in spread of parasitic infestation are little known and in our paper we shown ectoparasites species which those birds caried in urbanized environmental like Dermanyssus gallinae, Argas persicus or Cimex lecticulatus, well known zoonotic arthropods.

Zbog uloge koju imaju u širenju zoonotskih oboljenja (TBC, ornitoza, salmoneloza i dr) ove ptice nazivaju i "leteći pacovi". Uloga golubova u širenju parazitskih infestacija manje je bilo predmet izučavanja, tako da u našem radu dajemo prikaz ektoparazitskih vrsta koje golubovi prenose u urbanoj sredini, a od kojih su mnoštvo poput Dermanyssus gallinea, Argas persicus ili Cimex lecticulatus veoma dobro poznate zoonotske vrste.
