AB  - Infekcije parazitima predstavljaju značajan zdravstveni problem kod životinja,
posebno držanih na zajedničkim pašnjacima, gde se mešaju različite vrste životinja. Uzrokuju ih protozoe, helminti i artropode. Kolika je prevalenca i kojih
sve vrsta parazita trenutno ima u Srbiji teško je reći, s obzirom na to da se
ovakva istraživanja vrše sporadično. To se pre svega odnosi na autohtone vrste
i rase domaćih životinja, koje nisu obuhvaćane uobičajenim merama kontrole
parazita. Na osnovu povremenih ispitivanja može se, ipak, steći slika o
najčešćim parazitskim infekcijama koje ugrožavaju ove vrste životinja i one će
detaljnije biti opisane u daljem tekstu.

AB  - Neškodljivo uklanjanje uginulih životinja i nejestivih sporednih proizvoda klanja je nezamenljiva veterinarsko – sanitarna i preventivna mera u suzbijanju stočnih zaraza i zoonoza. U cilju pravilnog iskorišćavanja uginulih životinja i nejestivih klaničnih otpadaka preradom, od posebnog je značaja blagovremeno uklanjanje istih sa mesta njihovog nastajanja i njihovo adekvatno čuvanje – skladištenje, do momenta kada se dopremaju u kafileriju na preradu. Savremena organizacija sakupljanja sirovina sastoji se u tome da se u transfer stanicama efikasno i racionalno sakupljaju sirovine koje u određenom vremenskom roku preuzima fabrika – kafilerija.

AB  - Na komercijalnim faramama svinja, zdravstvena zaštita pojedinačnih životinja sve više gubi na značaju. U današnjim uslovima, kada je prusutna velika koncentracija životinja na relativno malom prostoru, takvo stanje zahteva zdravstvenu zaštitu na nivou cele farme. Poznata je važnost biosigurnosnih mera u svinjarstvu, koje imaju za cilj da spreče unošenje patogena na farmu i širenje infekcije unutar
same farme. Naime, prisutnost različitih uzgojnih bolesti, baketrijske ili virusne etiologije, dovodi do pada proizvodnih rezultata i zahteva dodatni napor zaposlenih na farmi, uz povećan utrošak lekova, što posledično umanjuje ekonomsku dobit farme. Prihvaćeno je da ključni element, u sprovođenju biosigurnosnih mera, predstavlja spremnost zaposlenih na farmi da sprovedu mere koje će sa visokom sigurnošću obezbediti
zaštitu od unošenja i širenja patogena na farmi. Sprovođenje ovih mera zahteva poznavanje zdravstvenog statusa svinja. Jedan od najčešćih faktora rizika je kupovina nerastova, nazimica ili odlučene prasadi nepoznatog zdravstvenog statusa. Stabilizovanju
zdravstvenog statusa svinja, pored već pomenutih mera, doprinose i programi vakcinacije. Promocija dobrog zdravlja svinja na komercijalnim farmama obuhvata primenu
sistema profilaktičkih mera, pored dobrog odabira rase, osmišljenosti veličine zapata i
načina primene biotehnoloških mera u procesu proizvodnje.
AB  - On commercial pig farms, the health care of individual animals is
losing importance. In today’s production conditions, a large concentration of animals is
relatively present in a small area. This situation requires health care at the farm level.
It is well known that biosecurity measures in pig farming are necessary and aimed to
prevent introduction of pathogens on a commercial farm and also for preventing spreading the infection within the farm itself. Namely, the presence of different breeding
diseases of bacterial or viral etiology leads to a decrease in production. That requires
additional efforts of farm employees and the use of medicines, and this situation ultimately reduces the economic profit of the farm. It is recognized that key elements in implementing biosecurity are the willingness of farm employees to implement measures
that will provide high security with protection against the introduction and spread of
pathogens on the farm. Implementation of the measures requires knowledge of the pigs’
health status on the farm. One of the most common risk factors on the farm is purchasing boars, sows or piglets raised with unknown health status. The promotion of good
pig health on commercial farms involves usage of different prophylactic measures, in
addition to the good breeding selection, the sense of the size of plot, and the way how
biotechnological measures are applied in the pig production process.

Protosan infection in flocks of small ruminants in Belgrade area during 2020

AB  - During our research we examined flocks of small ruminant originated from 23 villages from city districts
Mladenovac, Lazarevac, Obrenovac, Grocka, Zemun, Surčin, Palilula, Vozdovac and Zvezdara. In more than 80
percent of the herds, sheep and goats were breed together at same pasture. Using standard coprological methods we
examined 273 faecal samples from 41 herds. Determination of parasites we performed by morphological
characteristics. Molecular detection of Cryptosporidium sp. and Giardia sp. we not performed. Coccidiosis was found
at 27 herds. We usally occured mixed infection with 2-3 coccidia species. At sheep most abundant coccidia were E
faurei, followed by E.ovinoidalis, E. pallida and E.ahsata. At goats most abundant species were E.arlongy, folwed
by E.nina-kohl-yakimovae, E. hirci and E. caprina. Clinical signs of disease were present only at young animals but
oocysts were found at both, adult ant young animals. Cryptosporidium spp. was found at 19 herds Clinical signs of
cryptosporidiosis were established only at young animals. They had moderate morbidity and mortality rate. Infection
with Giardia duodenalis was found only at 2 herds. Giardia-infected animals generally had no clinical symptoms.

Mladenovac, Lazarevac, Obrenovac, Grocka, Zemun, Surčin, Palilula, Vozdovac and Zvezdara. In more than 80
percent of the herds, sheep and goats were breed together at same pasture. Using standard coprological methods we
examined 273 faecal samples from 41 herds. Determination of parasites we performed by morphological
characteristics. Molecular detection of Cryptosporidium sp. and Giardia sp. we not performed. Coccidiosis was found
at 27 herds. We usally occured mixed infection with 2-3 coccidia species. At sheep most abundant coccidia were E
faurei, followed by E.ovinoidalis, E. pallida and E.ahsata. At goats most abundant species were E.arlongy, folwed
by E.nina-kohl-yakimovae, E. hirci and E. caprina. Clinical signs of disease were present only at young animals but
oocysts were found at both, adult ant young animals. Cryptosporidium spp. was found at 19 herds Clinical signs of
cryptosporidiosis were established only at young animals. They had moderate morbidity and mortality rate. Infection
with Giardia duodenalis was found only at 2 herds. Giardia-infected animals generally had no clinical symptoms.",

AB  - Dugotrajana izloženost hemijskim zagađivačima je uzrok hroničnih oboljenja, ali
i povećanog rizika za kancerogeni efekat. Uobičajeno je mišljenje potrošača da je hrana biljnog porekla, koja se direktno tretira pesticidima jedini problem, ali i hrana animalnog porekla može predstavljati rizik po zdravlje ljudi. Izvori kontaminacije hrane
animalnog porekla su mnogobrojni: hrana biljnog porekla u toku ishrane životinja, voda, dezinfekcija prostora za gajenje životinja, tretiranje životinja veterinarskim lekovima, dodatak prehrambenih aditiva i sveprisutni industrijski zagađivači, kao što su teški metali, polihlorovani bifenili i dioksini. Hemijski kontaminenti uglavnom ne dovode
do promena koje se mogu zapaziti senzornim ispitivanjem hrane. Načini kontaminacije zavise od porekla hrane, lokacije i njene upotrebe. Od namirnica animalnog porekla,
najveći akcenat je na mesu čija je poštrošnja u velikom porastu od 1980-te godine. Zbog
toga je praćenje hemijske bezbednosti i utvrđivanje prisustva kontaminenata, pre svega perzistetnih zagađivača u hrani animalnog porekla, obavezno i neophodno. Maksimalne dozvoljene količine hemijskih zagađivača propisane su zakonskom regulativom
Republike Srbije, koja je u velikoj meri usklađena sa regulativom Evropske unije i prati
smernice kontrole Svetske zdravstvene organizacije. U radu su prikazani rezultati hemijskih ispitivanja hrane animalnog porekla u periodu od 2018. do 2021. godine. Cilj
rada je bio da se, sa aspekta bezbednosti, sagleda stanje hrane animalnog porekla na
području Republike Srbije kroz kontrolu kako domaćih tako i proizvoda koji se uvoze.

AB  - Određivanje prisustva polihlorovanih bifenila je značajno jer oni spadaju
u perzistentne organske zagađivače, koju su dobijeni sintetičkim putem.
Ova jedinjenja se koriste za kondenzatore i transformatore, i nakon
toga akomuliraju se u sedimentima, a zbog lipofilnih osobina ove
kancerogene i mutagene supstance dospevaju u tkivu riba. Zbog štetnog
uticaja po ljudsko zdravlje i životnu sredinu monitoringu prisustva
PCB-a u svim vrstama riba se daje na važnosti. Metode pripreme
uzorka su validirane za analizu indikatorskih PCB-a u ribama oslića
korišćenjem gasne hromatografije-masene spektrometrije (GC/MS)
za kvantifikaciju. Analizirani su uzorci dve vrste riba iz porodice
Merlucciidae, i to Merluccius hubbsi i Merluccius senegalenensis. Obzirom
da u matriksu prisutne koektrakcione supstance mogu oštetiti GC
koluni, kao i interferirati tokom detekcije ispitano je poređenje tri tipa
sredstva za prečišćavanje ekstrakta. Disperzni sorbenti koji su korišćeni
su: 1) PR Florisil 500 mg; 2) MgSO4, C18, PSA i dodatno prečišćavanje
eluiranjem na 100 mg C18 ketridžu i 3) dodatno eluiranje na 200 mg
C18. U prvom i drugom slučaju je dobijen zadovoljavajući recovery
od 73.5-86.2%, odnosno 71.3-86.8 %, respektivno. Dok su u trećem
slučaju korišćenjem ketridža 200 mg/3 ml C18 srednji recovery su bili
nezadovoljavajući u opsegu od 45.0-52.3%, ali su hromatogrami bili
bez interefrirajućih supstanci, što je dovelo do zadržavanja i ispitivanih
PCB. Tako da je treći postupak pripreme odbačen za određivanje realnih
uzoraka. Metode su validovane kroz linearnost, preciznost, specifičnost,
tačnost i limit kvantifikacije. Limiti kvantifikacije za indikatore PCB su 3 ng/g računato na vlažnu masu. U svim ispitanim uzorcima vrednosti
PCB-a su bile ispod LOQ. Uredbom Komisije (EU) br. 1259/2011 utvrđen
je maksimalni nivo za zbir šest markera ili indikatorskih PCB-a (PCB 28,
52, 101, 138, 153 i 180) u mišićnom mesu ribe u vrednosti od 75 ng/g
(v.m.). Obe metode pripreme su potvrđene zadovoljavajućim rezultatom
za PCB 153 korišćenjem sertifikovanog referentnog materijala - masne
ribe (Fapas, UK), pri čemu su dobijene vrednosti 24.2 ng/g i 26.4 ng/g,
respektivno, a tačna vrednost je bila 28.0 ng/g sa dozvoljenim opsegom
15.7-40.3 ng/g.

are obtained synthetically. These compounds are used for capacitors and
transformers, and after that they accumulate in sediments, and due to
lipophilic properties, these carcinogenic and mutagenic substances reach
the fish tissue. Due to the detrimental impact on human health and the
environment, monitoring the presence of PCBs in all fish species is given
importance. Sample preparation methods were validated for the analysis
of the indicator PCBs in the hake fish using gas chromatography-mass
spectrometry (GC/MS) for quantification. The analyzed samples were
from two species of fish from the family Merlucciidae, namely Merluccius
hubbsi and Merluccius senegalenensis. Since the co-extractants present
in the matrix can damage GC columns, as well as interfere during
detection, a comparison of three types of extract cleanup was examined.

quantification limit. The quantification limits for PCB indicators were
3 ng/g wet weight. In all tested samples, PCB values were below LOQ.
Commission Regulation (EU) No 1259/2011 established a Maximum
level for sum of the six marker or indicator PCBs (PCB 28, 52, 101,
138, 153 and 180) in muscle meat of fish at a value of 75 ng/g (w. w).
Both preparation methods were confirmed by satisfactory results for
PCB 153 using certified reference material - fatty fish (Fapas, UK), with
values of 24.2 ng/g and 26.4 ng/g, respectively, and the assigned value
was 28.0 ng/g with a permissible range of 15.7-40.3 ng/g.

was rejected for the determination of real samples. The methods were validated through linearity, precision, specificity, trueness and
quantification limit. The quantification limits for PCB indicators were
3 ng/g wet weight. In all tested samples, PCB values were below LOQ.
Commission Regulation (EU) No 1259/2011 established a Maximum
level for sum of the six marker or indicator PCBs (PCB 28, 52, 101,
138, 153 and 180) in muscle meat of fish at a value of 75 ng/g (w. w).
Both preparation methods were confirmed by satisfactory results for
PCB 153 using certified reference material - fatty fish (Fapas, UK), with
values of 24.2 ng/g and 26.4 ng/g, respectively, and the assigned value
was 28.0 ng/g with a permissible range of 15.7-40.3 ng/g.",

AB  - Sprečavanjem pojave i širenja parazitskih infekcija preduzimanjem određenih preventivnih mera na farmama ima osnovni zadatak smanjenje prevalencije parazita, čime se postiže da na klanice dospe što manji broj inficiranih svinja. Pored toga, preduzimanje propisanih mera na klanici ima za cilj da se rizik od pojave pojava parazitskih zoonoza u mesu i proizvodima od svinjskog mesa drži na nultom nivou. Primena ovog integrisanog koncepta kontrole infekcije parazitima zahtevala je sistematsko praćenje infekcije na farmama i klanicama pre i posle primenjenih mera. Svakako,
kompleksnost problema zahtevala je uključivanje svih relevantnih subjekata, prvenstveno veterinarske službe, počev od farmi pa do klanica.

AB  - Pašno držanje ima pozitivne efekte na proizvodnju, životnu sredinu i dobrobit životinja. S druge strane, na pašnjacima postoje rizici po zdravlje životinja usled izloženosti različitim opasnostima. Infektivne bolesti goveda na paši ne javljaju se u tolikoj meri kao parazitske bolesti, ali njihova pojava može da ima znatno drastičnije posledice. U ovom radu razmatrane su pojedine biosigurnosne mere koje doprinose smanjenju mogućnosti pojave i širenja infektivnih bolesti goveda u pašnom sistemu. U suštini, one obuhvataju kontrolu saobraćaja, odgovarajuće postupanje sa posetiocima, dezinfekciju vozila i opreme i, što je najvažnije, sprečavanje rizičnih kontakata između goveda, kao i između goveda i drugih životinja. Odgovarajuće planiranje i edukacije neophodni su za razumevanje i sprovođenje biosigurnosnih mera na pašnjaku, kao i u
svim drugim sistemima gajenja.

AB  - This case study describes the presence of a deer ked (Lipoptena cervi, Linnaeus, 1758) in the Balkan chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra balcanica) from the area of the National Park „Sutjeska“, Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H). This is the first finding of this ectoparasite in this animal species in B&H, which indicates that deer ked has significant adaptive abilities to different animal hosts.

AB  - Respiratory disease of bacterial etiology is a serious health problem on commercial farms.Pig production on commercial farms means keeping a large number of pigs in a relatively small space with a high level of technological organization of the production process. Intensive utilization of accommodation capacities, early weaning of piglets, inadequate microclimatic conditions for most of the statised categories and deficits in nutrition have conditioned the appearance of production or technological diseases. Production diseases of bacterial etiology are presented in this review paper. Diseases of bacterial etiology that occur at all stages of technological production are: atrophic rhinitis, enzootic swine pneumonia, pneumonia caused by pasteurellosis, bordetella, pneumonia caused by A. pleuropneumoniae, pneumonia caused by Haemophilus parasuis and pneumonia caused by Streptococcus. We have described the possibility of prophylaxis of these production diseases of bacterial etiology and the possibility of their control. These manufactured diseases cause economic losses (deaths, reduced daily gain, extended fattening time and treatment costs.

AB  - Enteral protozoan infection was of great importance to health status of small ruminants and
its performances. This was parasitic infection caused by protosoas from genus Eimeria,
Cryptosporidium and Giardia. Lamb and kids infection had moderate morbidity and low
mortality rate. Clinical sign of infection is usually presented in animals at 4-10 days old. The
study about parasitic fauna - protozoa helminths, and arthropods of small ruminant at south
part of Serbia, with emphasis to North Kosovo were performed during 2017. The study
included the examination in total of herds flocks of goats and sheep from Zvečan and
Leposavić district (villages Ceranja, Majdevo, Zemanica, Mure, Rudine, Žitkovac, Oraovica,
Mošnica, Donji Krnjin, Belo brdo, Mioliće, Drenova and Beliće. Colected faeces samples were
examined using routine coprological methods. Determination of parasites we performed by
morphological characteristc. Infection with protosoa occurred at and on 46.14% of examined
sheep and 29.42% of examined goat herds. Coccidiosis was found at 43 sheep and 27 goat
herds. We usally occured mixed infection with 2-3 coccidia species. At sheep most abundant
species were E faurei, followed by Eimeria ahsata, E.ovinoidalis, E. intricata and E. pallida. At
goats most abundant species were E.arlongy, folwed by infection with E. hirci, E.nina-kohlyakimovae, E. christenseni and E. caprina. Oocyst were found at adult ant young animals, but
clinical sign of disease were present only at young animals. During our examination
Cryptospoidium spp. was found at 29 sheep and 23 goat herds. Determination of subspecies
we not performed. Lambs between five and twenty-one days were the most susceptible for
infection. Lambs cryptosporidiosis has high morbidity and mortality rate. Symptoms of acute
cryptosporidiosis include inapetence, and weight loss. Infection with Giardia duodenalis was

AB  - Background: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence, intensity and risk factors (age and gender) promoting the intestinal helminthic infections of the Domestic mountain ponies and Balkan donkeys in Serbia.Methods: Prevalence, intensity and risk factors influencing helminth infection in horses (n=39) and donkeys (n=18) at the site of Nature Park Stara Planina, were studied from May to Sep 2015. The presence of one or several gastrointestinal helminth species was confirmed by faecal flotation in 97.43% of horses and 88.88% of donkeys included in the monitoring. The identified helminth species were Trichostrongylus axei, Strongylus edentatus, S. vulgaris, Parascaris equorum, Dictyocaulus arnfieldi and Anoplocephala magna in 84.61%, 46.15%, 5.13%, 58.97%, 94.87% and 38.46% of horses, respectively. The significant association of infection with P. equorum and sex of horses was established. (χ2=13.33, P<0.01).Results: The prevalence of parasitic helminths identified in donkeys was the following: D. arnfieldi, T. axei, Pa. equorum, S. vulgaris, A. margna and Strongyloides westeri in 55.55%, 38.89%, 27.78%, 22.22% and 22.22% of donkeys, respectively. Moreover, the mean faecal egg count was higher in donkeys (369.9 EPG - egg per gram) than in horses (250.2 EPG). The association between the age and the mean EPG was significant (P<0.05) in both equine species.Conclusion: The results of the investigation provided basic information that can be helpful for planning strategic control of nematode infection in equine population in Nature Reserves in Serbia.

infektivna anemija kopitara. Poslednjih godina, sve veći problem predstavljaju i
arbovirusni encefalitisi, pre svega groznica Zapadnog Nila, zatim lajm-borelioza,
anaplazmoza i piroplazmoza. Posebno su ugrožene životinje na pašnjacima,
koje su izložene vektorima, pre svega insektima i krpeljima. Na otvorenim pašnjacima
uobičajeno se drže domaći brdski konji i balkanski magarci.

Influence of breed on selected quality parameters of fresh goat meat

AB  - The potential of goats to produce a high-quality meat is mainly reflected in their healthy fats, low calorie intramuscular fats, saturated fats, and, especially, their high ratios of unsaturated (UFA) and saturated (SFA) fatty acids, as well as hypocholesterolemic and hypercholesterolemic fatty acids. The aim of this study was to collect and compare meat quality parameters for domestic Balkan, Alpine and Saanen goats of the same age. Samples for all tests were taken from musculus gluteus superficialis. Chemical composition, pH value, fatty acid composition, content of volatile compounds, color and overall sensory quality (appearance, texture and smell) were determined. In chemical composition, moisture, fat, protein and ash varied significantly between each of the examined groups as opposed to pH values. Furthermore, among all the examined groups a significant difference was found for fatty acids and volatile compounds. Determined ratio of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) to SFAs was 0.089, 0.085 and 0.071 for Balkan, Alpine and Saanen goat meats, respectively. Regarding that ratio, Saanen goat meat had the most favorable characteristics. Saanen goat meat showed the highest nutritional value. On the other hand, Balkan goat meat had the lowest intramuscular fat content. Measurements of the meat color from all three groups, as well as overall acceptability, showed significant differences between breeds. Obtained results point to the impact of breed on chemical composition and fatty acid profile of goat meat.. © 2020 American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

Chemical composition, pH value, fatty acid composition, content of volatile compounds, color and overall sensory quality (appearance, texture and smell) were determined. In chemical composition, moisture, fat, protein and ash varied significantly between each of the examined groups as opposed to pH values. Furthermore, among all the examined groups a significant difference was found for fatty acids and volatile compounds. Determined ratio of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) to SFAs was 0.089, 0.085 and 0.071 for Balkan, Alpine and Saanen goat meats, respectively. Regarding that ratio, Saanen goat meat had the most favorable characteristics. Saanen goat meat showed the highest nutritional value. On the other hand, Balkan goat meat had the lowest intramuscular fat content. Measurements of the meat color from all three groups, as well as overall acceptability, showed significant differences between breeds. Obtained results point to the impact of breed on chemical composition and fatty acid profile of goat meat.. © 2020 American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).",

AB  - Technological solutions and environmental conditions have a significant impact on infestation intensity and the problems around D. gallinae control. Changes in keeping laying hens in EU, in terms of D. gallinae influence, have not led to the welfare of the layers. On the contrary, they have contributed to the spreading of disease, have worsened conditions for control and accentuated harmful consequences. Apart from the poultry, these changes have also had a negative impact on the welfare of humans, through a toxicological and zootonic risk, and economic damages. Conventional cages so far provide the most appropriate environment for D. gallinae control. Opportunities for improving, even solving the problem of D. gallinae control in egg production do exist, however they require a changing the entire approach hitherto.
AB  - Tehnološka rešenja i ambijentalne prilike bitno utiču na intezitet infestacije i problematičnost kontrole D. gallinae. Promene u načinu držanja kokošaka nosilja u EU, sa aspekta uticaja D. gallinae, nisu dovele do dobrobiti nosilja. Naprotiv, doprinele su širenju bolesti, pogoršale uslove kontrole i naglasile štetne posledice. Osim na živinu, promene su nepovoljno uticale na dobrobit čoveka kroz toksikološki i zoonotski rizik, i ekonomske štete. Konvencionalni kavezi obezbeđuju do sad najprikladniji ambijent za kontrolu D. gallinae. Mogućnosti za unapređenje, pa i rešenje kontrole D. gallinae u proizvodnji jaja postoje, ali ona zahteva promenu celokupnog dosadašnjeg pristupa.

AB  - BackgroundCulicoides (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) is a genus of small biting midges (also known as no-see ums) that currently includes 1368 described species. They are proven or suspected vectors for important pathogens affecting animals such as bluetongue virus (BTV) and Schmallenberg virus (SBV). Currently little information is available on the species of Culicoides present in Serbia. Thus, the aim of this study was to examine species diversity, host preference and the presence of BTV and SBV RNA in Culicoides from the Stara Planina Nature Park in south-eastern Serbia.ResultsIn total 19,887 individual Culicoides were collected during three nights of trapping at two farm sites and pooled into six groups (Obsoletus group, Pulicaris group, Others group and further each group according to the blood-feeding status to freshly engorged and non-engorged). Species identification was done on subsamples of 592 individual Culicoides specimens by morphological and molecular methods (MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry and PCR/sequencing). At least 22 Culicoides species were detected. Four animal species (cow, sheep, goat and common blackbird) as well as humans were identified as hosts of Culicoides biting midges. The screening of 8291 Culicoides specimens in 99 pools for the presence of BTV and SBV RNA by reverse-transcription quantitative PCR were negative.ConclusionsThe biodiversity of Culicoides species in the natural reserve Stara Planina was high with at least 22 species present. The presence of C. imicola Kieffer was not recorded in this area. Culicoides showed opportunistic feeding behaviour as determined by host preference. The absence of SBV and BTV viral RNA correlates with the absence of clinical disease in the field during the time of sampling. These data are the direct outcome of a training programme within the Institutional Partnership Project AMSAR: Arbovirus monitoring, research and surveillance-capacity building on mosquitoes and biting midges funded by the programme SCOPES of the Swiss National Science Foundation.

може указивати на проблем у поремећају метаболизма. Порођај као стресни
фактор организма под утицајем хормона повлачи енергетске резерве ради
будућег напора а касније ради очувања подмлатка. Кондиција грла у многоме
игра велику улогу у овом билансу. Идеална кондиција грла у периду телења је
3,0 - 3,50 за краве и 3,25 - 3,50 за јунице. Повлачењем масних резерви из
организма долази и до повлачења масних резерви из амортизационих
јастучића смештених у петном делу папка, самим тим и до промене става ногу
као и поремећаја хода.

AB  - The present study was conducted in 90 sheep and goats flocks from the territory of Vojvodina in the two years period of March 2016 to October 2017, during the grazing season. Tick infestation was deteected in 53.14% of examined animals. The most dominant was Ixodes ricinus (43.91%), followed by Dermacentor marginatus (31.91%), Rhipicephalus bursa (15.22%), R.sanguineus (8.72%), Hyalomma savignyi (3.72%),, Haemaphysalis punctata (3.21%) and D.pictus (2.72%) . The sex ratio of detected tick species showed a higher number of females in four species (I.ricinus, H.punctata, R.sanguineus and D.marginatus), while higher number of males were detected in two species (R.bursa and Hy.savignyi), and an equal number of ticks of the D.pictus. The population dynamics of recorded tick species showed two annual maxima, in spring (AprilMay) and in autumn (September-October). The considerable interchange between spring and autumn tick populations can be attributed mainly to environmental conditions.
AB  - Studija je rađena tokom dvogodišnjeg perioda od marta 1996. do oktobra 2017. godine, tokom pašne sezone, na 90 stada ovaca i koza u Vojvodini. Infestacija krpeljima je ustanovljena kod 53,14% životinja. Dominantna vrsta krpelja je bila Ixodes ricinus (43,91%), slede Dermacentor marginatus (31,91%), Rhipicephalus bursa (15,22%), R.sanguineus (8,72%), Hyalomma savignyi (3,72%),, Haemaphysalis punctata (3,21%) i D.pictus (2,72%). Odnos polova je bio u korist ženki kod četiri vrste (I.ricinus, H.punctata, R.sanguineus i D.marginatus), dok su mužjaci bili brojniji kod dve vrste (R.bursa i Hy.savignyi). Jednak broj mužjaka i ženki je ustanovljen kod samo jedne vrste krpelja - D.recticulatus. Populaciona dinamika je pokazala da nađene vrste krpelja imaju dva sezonska maksimuma u proleće (april-maj) i u jesen (septembar-oktobar). Brojnost populacije tokom ovih sezonskih maksimuma je u direktnoj korelaciji sa životnim uslovima (temparatura,vlaga).

AB  - Histamine is a biogen amin, which is formed by decarboxylation of the histidine amino acid, under the action of the L-histidine-decarboxylase enzyme. High level of free histidine in fish meat, bacterial histidin decarboxylase activity and high temperature of storage elevate the level of histamine. Among the most important factors that can affect the level of histamine in fish meat are the type of fish and the method of its preservation. In order to determine this dependence, 1030 samples of frozen fish (tuna, mackerel, sardines and sprat) and 167 samples of canned fish (tuna, sardines and mackerel) were monitored for histamine content by ELISA method. It was determined a lower concentration of histamine in frozen fish (from 5.71 mg/kg to 18.03 mg/kg) compared to canned fish (from 15.03 mg/kg to 110.6 mg/kg). The highest histamine concentrations were found in the mackerel samples, regardless of the preservation method (110.6 mg/kg in canned mackerel and 18.03 mg/kg in frozen mackerel), which were significantly higher compared to the histamine levels found in cans of tuna and sardines (p ˂0.0001). Of the total number of samples, three samples (two samples of canned sardines and one sample of canned mackerel) were declared unsafe for human health. In most of the analyzed samples, the level of determined histamine was relatively low, which confirms adequate implementation of control protocols and efficant surveillance of products placed on the Serbian market.
AB  - Histamin je bioaktivni amin, koji nastaje u reakciji dekarboksilacije aminokiseline histidina, pod dejstvom enzima Lhistidin dekarboksilaze. Visok nivo slobodnog histidina u mesu ribe, aktivnost enzim produkujućih bakterija i visoke temperature skladištenja deluju predisponirajuće na sintezu histamina. Među najznačajnije faktore koji utiču na koncentraciju histamina u mesu ribe jesu vrsta ribe i metod njenog konzervisanja. U cilju utvrđivanja ove zavisnosti, uzorci zamrznute ribe (tune, skuše, sardine i papaline) i ribe u konzervi (tune, sardine i skuše) su analizirani ELISA metodom. Utvrđene su niže koncentracije histamina u uzorcima zamrznute ribe (od 5.71 mg/kg do 18.03 mg/kg) u poređenju sa konzervama od ribe (od 15.03 mg/kg do 110.6 mg/kg). Najviše koncentracije histamina su ustanovljene u uzorcima skuše, bez obzira na metod konzervisanja (110.6 mg/kg u konzervama od skuše i 18.03 mg/kg u zamrznutoj skuši), koje su bile i statistički značajno veće u odnosu na konzerve tune i konzerve sardine (p ˂0.0001). Od ukupnog broja uzoraka, samo tri uzorka (dva uzorka sardine u konzervi i jedan uzorak skuše u konzervi) su proglašeni nebezbednim za zdravlje ljudi. U najvećem broju ispitanih uzoraka izmerene su relativno niske koncentracije histamina, što ukazuje na adekvatno sprovođenje kontrole i nadzora nad proizvodima koji se plasiraju u promet na srpskom tržištu.

AB  - Genus Culicoides spp. includes small insects 0.5-2 mm in length, usually grey or black and at first glance very similar to mosquitoes. They are strictly hematophagous, feeding by attacking hosts outdoors and indoors (although they are less susceptible to the stationing like Aedes mosquitoes do). The sting is very painful at the injection site and often followed by hypersensibilisation with the consequent formation of allergic dermatitis. In addition, the insects carry and transmit a multitude of diseases, often of a zoonotic character, and therefore are of great epidemiological importance. In our country, continuous monitoring of Culicolides spp. has been carried out and seasonal dynamics of their appearance in the period 2015-2016 is presented in this article. During October 2015, the presence of Culicolides spp. was confirmed in 10.00% of samples; in November, their presence was not established, whereas in December, 2.35% of samples proved positive for the presence of Culicolides spp. During 2016, from January to March, no Culicolides spp. were found in any of the examined samples. During April, their prevalence was 9.63%, in May - 6.74%, in June - 3.70%, in July - 15.78%, in August - 18.07%, in September - 27.27%, and in October - 45.65%. In Serbia, the dominant Culicoides spp. species are Obsoletus complex and Pulicaris complex established in 57.21% and 33.37% of samples, respectively. Other species are present in lesser extent. In Obsoletus complex, the dominant species was Culicoides obsoletus/scoticus. The percentage of Culicoides obsoletus /scoticus males in samples was 25.52%. Non-pigmented (young) females were present in 66.06% of samples; females who took blood in 7.55% and 0.87% were gravid females. In Pulicaris complex, the dominant species was Culicoides pulicaris. Males of Culicoides pulicaris were found in 19.23% of samples, non-pigmented (young) females in 70.96%, females who took blood in 9.08% while 0.73% were gravid females.
AB  - Rod Culicoides spp. su mali insekti veličine 0,5-2 mm, većinom sivkaste ili  crne  boje  i  na  prvi  pogled  veoma  slični  komarcima. Oni  su  striktne  hematofage. Ubod  je  veoma  bolan,  a  mesta  uboda  su  često  hipersenzibilisana  uz  posledično  nastajanje  alergijskih  dermatitisa. Uz  to  oni  prenose  mnoštvo  oboljenja  često  zoonotskog  karaktera  tako  da  su  od  izuzetnog  epidemiološkog  značaja. U  našoj  zemlji  se  vrši  stalni  monitoring  Culicolides-a  i  ovde  dajemo  prikaz  sezonske  dinamike  njihovog  pojavljivanja  u  periodu  2015-2016.godine. Tokom  2015.  godine  u  oktobru  je  njihovo  prisustvo ustanovljeno u 10.,00% uzoraka, u novembru ih nije bilo, a tokom decembra su bili prisutni u 2,35%. Tokom 2016. godine tokom januara, februara  i  marta  nisu  nađeni  ni  u  jednom  prispelom  uzorku. Tokom  aprila  meseca njihova prevalencija je iznosila 9,63%, u maju je bila 6,74%, u junu 3,70%, u julu 15,78%, u avgustu 18,07%, u septembru 27,27% i u oktobru 45,65%. U  Srbiji  su  dominantne  vrste  Culicoides spp.  iz  Obsoletus  kompleksa  i  ustanovljeni  su  u  57,21%. The role of ecosystem service in conservation of autochthonous sheep breeds exposed to tick infections in Serbia

AB  - Sheep breeding represents one of the most perspective branches of the livestock production in
Serbia. The specific climate and the unic habitat include a high variability of flora and fauna
of grasslands, pastures and meadows throughout the country, ensuring high biodiversity of the
ecosystem. Autochthonous breeds are most adapted to the local environment. The present
study was performed on 143 autochthonous sheep breed flocks in Serbia during the grazing
season from March to October 2016 and 2017, and included a total of 1069 adult sheep. Tick
infection was detected in all tested flocks, affecting 49.02% of examined sheep. The most
dominant was Ixodes ricinus (44.71%), followed by Dermacentor marginatus (30.40%),
Rhipicephalus bursa (15.15%), Ripicephalus sanguineus (8.70%), Hyalomma savignyi
(3.18%), Haemaphysalis punctata (2.81%) and Dermacentor recticulatus (2.62%). In tested
years the recorded tick infections showed two peaks, in spring (April-May) and in autumn
(September-October). The considerable difference between detected spring and autumn tick
populations can be attributed mainly to climatic and environmental conditions of the
ecosystem where ticks and sheep cohabitat.

Tick infestation and occurrence of Anaplasma phagocytophilum and piroplasms in cattle in the Republic of Serbia

AB  - Ticks transmit important pathogens affecting cattle such as intracellular bacteria of the genus Anaplasma or protozoa of the order Piroplasmida. This study aimed at assessing tick species present on pastures and cattle and determining occurrence of the tick-borne pathogens Anaplasma phagocytophilum and Babesia spp. in cattle. During May and June 2013, ticks and EDTA blood were collected from 185 dairy cows at six locations in Serbia. Ticks were also collected directly from the pastures at four of these locations. The occurrence of A. phagocytophilum was investigated by serological (immunofluorescence antibody test (IFAT)) and molecular methods (real-time PCR) and of piroplasms by traditional PCR followed by sequencing. The most prevalent tick species on animals was Ixodes ricinus, (n = 167), followed by Haemaphysalis punctata (n = 146) and Dermacentor marginatus (n = 122). On the pasture, however, the most common species was H. punctata (n = 41), I. ricinus (n = 37), and D. marginatus (n = 2). Altogether, 4 out of 163 (2.45%) serum samples of cows were positive for A. phagocytophilum-specific antibodies by IFAT. However, the 135 blood samples tested for A. phagocytophilum DNA were all negative. Altogether, 5 out of these 135 samples were positive for piroplasm DNA. PCR products were sequenced and identified as a benign Theileria spp. with 100% identity with GenBank entries from Italy (Theileria sergenti), China (Theileria spp.), and Korea (Theileria buffeli isolate HS252). The results provide evidence for the presence of several hard tick species infesting cattle in Serbia which can carry pathogens potentially influencing animal health, as well as evidence of contact with tick-borne pathogens Theileria spp. and A. phagocytophilum.
