AB  - The African green monkey cadavers, of both sexes, aged 3 to 4 years, weighed between 2.000 and 3.000 g were obtained from the Institute of Immunology and Virology "Torlak" from Belgrade. Visualization of the arteries of the head and neck was obtained by injecting a contrast
mass, gelatin colored with red tempera, into the thoracic aorta. The right and left external carotid
arteries represent the continuation of the corresponding common carotid arteries. After the arising of right and left a. thyroidea, a. laryngea caudalis, truncus linguofacialis, a. pharyngea ascendens, a. occipitalis, a. auricularis caudalis and a. temporalis superficialis, each the external carotid artery continues as maxillary artery. In the pterygopalatine fossa, the maxillary
artery branches into the following six ones: rami pterygoidei, a. buccalis, aa. temporales profundae, which are usually two, caudal and rostral arteries, a. alveolaris mandibularis, a.
meningea media, and a. palatina descendens with its branches: a. sphenopalatina, a. palatina major and a. palatina minor.
The results of this study are significant for comparative studies among different species
of primates, humans and domestic mammals. The present study on morphology and distribution of the external carotid artery in the African green monkeys points to higher anatomical correlation between African green monkeys and humans than between the African green
monkeys and domestic mammals.

Abrasions and abscesses of the nasal region in captive snakes (a clinical case series)

AB  - Abscesses in reptiles are usually the result of trauma or hematogenous spread. Their
normal appearance is a localized subcutaneous accumulation of purulent material. Due to the lack of myeloperoxidase, the reptilian abscess is usually not liquefied but inspissated and surrounded by a fibrous capsule. Due to the firm nature of the fibrеscesses, fine needle aspirates
and exfoliative cytology are usually inconclusive. Nasal abrasions are also of traumatic origin and often occur in reptiles that are not well adapted to captivity or are kept in unsuitable enclosures. These can be minor superficial skin and scale damage, but also deeper tissue deformities of the nose and mouth, with or without an abscess.
Considering the characteristic rostral localization of the swellings in combination with
the anamnestic data on the husbandry, the diagnosis is confirmed after surgical exploration. Clinical cases of nasal abrasions and abscesses in 10 captive-bred snakes are presented – four
Common boas (Boa imperator), five Ball pythons (Python regius) and one Cape cobra (Naja
nivea). Treatment included antiseptic preparation of the skin and complete surgical extraction
of the abscesses with local lidocaine infiltration, followed by primary closure or secondary wound healing. Unsutured incisions were treated locally with an oily suspension containing
tetracycline and proteolytic enzymes. Abrasions were cleaned with granufurin solution and
treated locally with a silver sulfadiazine cream. All snakes received an intramuscular injection
of enrofloxacin and meloxicam.
The described surgical and medical treatment provides good healing of nasal lesions,
but correction of environmental factors is important to prevent recurrence.

Perspektive i pravci razvoja novih antihelmintika u veterinarskoj medicini

AB  - Rastući nivo rezistencije parazita na antiparazitske lekove, kao i rigorozni standardi za maksimalne nivoe rezidua lekova u jestivim životinjskim tkivima, predstavljaju značajan izazov za savremenu veterinarsku farmakoterapiju. Parazitske nematode uzrokuju značajan morbiditet i smrtnost životinja ali i ljudi širom sveta. Takođe, uzrok su velikih gubitaka u proizvodnji hrane. Kontrola infekcija ovim parazitima oslanja se na efikasnu primenu anthelmintika, ali učestala primena istih anthelmintičkih jedinjenja za masovnu hemoterapiju dovodi do razvoja rezistencije na lekove. Konstantno postoji potreba da se identifikuju nova jedinjenja za razvoj potencijalnih anthelmintika. Sa drige strane, neuromišićni sistem parazitskih nematoda se pokazao kao efikasna farmakološka meta za za ove lekove. Neki od najčešće korišćenih antiparazitskih lekova su agonisti nikotinskih acetilholinskih receptora (nAChRs) (imidazotiazoli i tetrahidropirimidini) ili aktivatori glutamat-zavisnih hloridnih kanala (GluCls) i GABA-receptora (makrociklični laktoni). Holinergički agonisti kao što su levamisol, pirantel i oksantel selektivno otvaraju ligand-zavisne acetilholinske jonske kanale eksprimirane u mišićima zida tela nematoda da izazovu spastičnu kontrakciju mišićnih ćelija što dovodi do paralize crva.
	Predlažemo u cilju poboljšanja postojeće farmakoterapije i razvoja novih lekova istraživanja u sledećim pravcima: 1. Istraživanje efikasnosti kombinacija postojećih GABAergičnih i holinergičkih lekova za povećanje efikasnosti; 2. Istraživanje potencijalnih novih meta za anthelmintike (muskarinski ACh receptor i serotonergički MOD 1 receptor); 3) Novu namenu postojećih lekova, namenjenim drugim indikacijama koji ispoljavaju potencijalna antihelmintička svojstva; 4) Antinematodna svojstva terpenoidnih aktivnih sastojaka (AI) biljnih esencijalnih ulja i potencijalne kombinacija AI i postojećih lekova.

AB  - Lokalna anestezija je reverzibilno farmakološko izazivanje neosetljivosti
u jednom delu tela (regiji) sa privremenim prekidom sprovođenja impulsa
kroz nerv, pri čemu je svest pacijenta očuvana. Dobar hirurg, u terenskim uslovima,
mora poznavati topografsku anatomiju. Lokalna anestezija se mnogo više primenjuje u
uslovima rada veterinara na terenu, ali isto tako ima veoma značajnu primenu u kliničkim
uslovima, prvenstveno kod preživara, kao i u slučajevima kada zdravstveno stanje
životinje predstavlja rizik za primenu opšte anestezije. Infiltrativna lokalna anestezija
se koristi kod svih vrsta životinja. Najčešći vidovi anestezije koji se izvode u terenskim
uslovima su: retrobulbarna anestezija, Petersonova očna blokada, blokada n. cornualis-
a, linijska anestezija i invertni L blok, proksimalna i distalna paravertebralna anestezija,
segmentalna dorzolumbalna anestezija, epiduralna anestezija, blokada n. pudendus-
a, lokalna i regionalna anestezija papaka, intravenska regionalna anestezija,
lokalna anestezija vimena i lokalna anestezija kod kastracije bikova.

u jednom delu tela (regiji) sa privremenim prekidom sprovođenja impulsa

mora poznavati topografsku anatomiju. Lokalna anestezija se mnogo više primenjuje u
uslovima rada veterinara na terenu, ali isto tako ima veoma značajnu primenu u kliničkim

životinje predstavlja rizik za primenu opšte anestezije. Infiltrativna lokalna anestezija
se koristi kod svih vrsta životinja. Najčešći vidovi anestezije koji se izvode u terenskim
uslovima su: retrobulbarna anestezija, Petersonova očna blokada, blokada n. cornualis-
a, linijska anestezija i invertni L blok, proksimalna i distalna paravertebralna anestezija,

AB  - Интензивирањем бројлерске производње дошло је до значајног повећања преваленције различитих патолошких стања чија основна етиологија почива у самом технолошком процесу производње. Појава контактног дерматитиса на плантарној кожи екстремитета („foot pad dermatitis“), затим на скочном зглобу („hock burns“) и на грудима („breast burns“) данас представља врло раширену појаву у интензивној производњи, наносећи значајне економске губитке услед смањеног прираста и одбацивања трупова на линији клања. Поред интензивирања бројлерске производње значајан утицај на њихову појаву имају исхрана, услови и начин држања (врста простирке) и генетска предиспозиција. Најзначајнији фактор ризика за настанак лезија је влажна простирка посебно у комбинацији са штетним дејством амонијака. Појава лезија има веома велики значај као индикатор добробити имајући у виду да постоје претпоставке да су установљене лезије врло болне и да често онемогућавају нормално кретање пилића.
Макроскопским прегледом лезија на плантарној површини уочавају се инфламаторне лезије праћене некрозом на јастучићима табана и/или на прстима. Лезије се ређе могу установити на тибиометатарзалним зглобовима. Код благог облика постоји дисколорација на кожи, хиперкератоза, а у тежим случајевима јавња се едем, ерозије и улцерације.
Хистопатолошки, благе лезије се карактеришу умереном хиперплазијом и/или хиперкератозом епидермиса, конгестијом и едемом, уз присуство благог инфламаторног инфилтрата у форми периваскулитиса и субепителијалне инфилтрације мононуклеарним ћелијама и мањим бројем гранулоцита. Умерене суперфицијелне лезије се карактеришу врло израженом хиперплазијом и хиперкератозом епидермиса, егзоцитозом, појавом пустула и красти, конгестијом и инфилтрацијом дермиса мононуклеарним и гранулоцитиним инфилтратом. Тешке, дубоке лезије се карактеришу некрозом епидермиса који је замењен некротичним гнојним садржајем, појавом гранулационог ткива, израженом инфламаторном инфилтрацијом (периваскулитис и субепителна инфилтрација) доминантно хетерофилним гранулоцитима и мононуклеарним ћелијама.
Имајући у виду да је појава контактног дерматитиса све учесталија појава како на фармама бројлерских пилића тако и на кланици приликом прегледа трупова на линија клања неопходно је имплементирати програм контроле овог патолошког стања и на тај начин побољшати добробит и обезбедити производњу квалитетног и безбедног пилећег меса.
AB  - The intensification of broiler production has led to a significant increase in the prevalence of various pathological conditions, whose basic etiology lies in the production process itself. The occurrence of contact dermatitis on the plantar skin of extremities ("foot pad dermatitis"), then on the hock joint ("hock burns"), and on the breasts ("breast burns") is today a very widespread phenomenon in intensive production, causing significant economic losses due to reduced growth and carcass rejection on the slaughter line. In addition to the intensification of broiler production, significant factors influencing their occurrence are nutrition, housing conditions (type of bedding), and genetic predisposition. The most significant risk factor for lesion formation is wet bedding, especially in combination with the harmful effects of ammonia. The occurrence of lesions is very important as an indicator of welfare, considering that there are assumptions that established lesions are very painful and often prevent normal chicken movement. Macroscopic examination of lesions on the plantar surface reveals inflammatory lesions accompanied by necrosis on the foot pads and/or toes. Lesions are less commonly found on the tibiotarsal joints. In mild forms, discoloration of the skin, hyperkeratosis, and in severe cases, edema, erosions, and ulcerations occur. Histopathologically, mild lesions are characterized by moderate epidermal hyperplasia and/or hyperkeratosis, congestion and edema, with the presence of mild inflammatory infiltrate in the form of perivasculitis and subepithelial infiltration of mononuclear cells and a small number of granulocytes. Moderate superficial lesions are characterized by very pronounced epidermal hyperplasia and hyperkeratosis, exocytosis, appearance of pustules and crusts, congestion, and infiltration of the dermis with mononuclear and granulocytic infiltrate. Severe, deep lesions are characterized by epidermal necrosis replaced by necrotic purulent content, appearance of granulation tissue, pronounced inflammatory infiltration (perivasculitis and subepithelial infiltration) predominantly with heterophilic granulocytes and mononuclear cells. Considering that the occurrence of contact dermatitis is becoming more frequent both on broiler farms and in slaughterhouses during carcass examination on the slaughter line, it is necessary to implement a control program for this pathological condition and thus improve welfare and ensure the production of quality and safe poultry meat.

AB  - Јерсиниоза изазвана са Y. enterocolitica једна је од водећих зооноза у Европској унији која се преноси храном и налази се на трећем месту по учесталости, одмах после кампилобактериозе и салмонелозе. Према извештају Европске агенције за безбедност хране у току 2022. године укупан број пријављених и потврђених случајева јерсиниозе био је 7919. Код људи се као узрочници најчешће изолује Y. enterocolitica биосеротип 4/О:3, затим 2/О:9 и 2/О:5. Инфекција настаје уношењем контаминиране хране са Y. enterocolitica која код људи изазива симптоме инфекције гастроинтестиналног тракта у виду гастроентероколитиса са крвавим дијарејама и фебрилним стањем. Као најчешћи извор заразе наводи се сирово или недовољно термички обрађено месо свиња. Здраве асимптоматске свиње, које као такве долазе на клање представљају извор инфекције за друге свиње током боравка у депоу кланице и потенцијални ризик од даље унакрасне контаминације током процеса клања. У оквиру фарме преваленција је врло променљива, што указује на утицај појединих фактора на фарми. Зависно од нивоа примењених биосигурносх мера на фарми, утвђено је да је преваленције већа на фармама са нижим нивоима биосигурносих мера. Присуство Y. enterocolitica не може се открити конвенционалним прегледом меса, тако да се мере контроле односе на спречавање или смањење фекалне и друге контаминације почевши од фарме, затим током транспорта, за време боравка у депоу кланице, као и приликом самог клања. Стратегија за смањење учесталости инфекције Y. enterocolitica, подразумева дефинисање фактора ризика и успостављање поступака у циљу њиховог смањења или елиминације, са циљем унапређења безбедности хране и јавног здравља. Резултати студије спроведене у Србији указују на ниво преваленције од 10,4%, а као главни фактори ризика идентификовани су фарме отвореног типа, дужи боравак свиња у депоу кланице и зимска сезона.
AB  - Yersiniosis caused by Y. enterocolitica is one of the leading zoonoses in the European Union, transmitted through food and ranking third in prevalence after campylobacteriosis and salmonellosis. According to the 2022 report from the European Food Safety Agency, the total number of reported and confirmed cases of yersiniosis was 7919. In humans, the most frequently isolated causative agents are Y. enterocolitica bioserotypes 4/O:3, followed by 2/O:9 and 2/O:5. Infection occurs through the ingestion of contaminated food with Y. enterocolitica, causing symptoms of gastrointestinal tract infection, such as gastroenterocolitis with bloody diarrhea and a febrile condition.
The primary source of infection is often cited as raw or inadequately cooked pork. Asymptomatic healthy pigs, which serve as sources of infection, contribute to contamination during their stay in slaughterhouse depots, posing a potential risk of cross-contamination during the slaughtering process. Prevalence on farms is highly variable, indicating the influence of various factors. Depending on the level of applied biosecurity measures on farms, higher prevalences are observed on farms with lower biosecurity levels.
The presence of Y. enterocolitica cannot be detected through conventional meat inspection methods. Therefore, control measures focus on preventing or reducing fecal and other contaminations, starting from the farm, during transportation, at the slaughterhouse depot, and throughout the slaughtering process. A strategy to reduce the incidence of Y. enterocolitica infection involves defining risk factors and establishing procedures to mitigate or eliminate them, with the aim of improving food safety and public health. Results from a study conducted in Serbia indicate a prevalence rate of 10.4%, with identified main risk factors being open-type farms, prolonged pig stays in slaughterhouse depots, and the winter season.

AB  - To improve the genomic evaluation of milk-related traits in Holstein-Friesian (HF) cattle it
is essential to identify the associated candidate genes. Novel SNP-based analyses, such as the genetic
mapping of inherited diseases, GWAS, and genomic selection, have led to a new era of research.
The aim of this study was to analyze the association of each individual SNP in Serbian HF cattle
with milk production traits and inbreeding levels. The SNP 60 K chip Axiom Bovine BovMDv3
was deployed for the genotyping of 334 HF cows. The obtained genomic results, together with the
collected phenotypic data, were used for a GWAS. Moreover, the identification of ROH segments
was performed and served for inbreeding coefficient evaluation and ROH island detection. Using a
GWAS, a polymorphism, rs110619097 (located in the intron of the CTNNA3 gene), was detected to be
significantly (p < 0.01) associated with the milk protein concentration in the first lactation (adjusted to
305 days). The average genomic inbreeding value (FROH) was 0.079. ROH islands were discovered
in proximity to genes associated with milk production traits and genomic regions under selection
pressure for other economically important traits of dairy cattle. The findings of this pilot study
provide useful information for a better understanding of the genetic architecture of milk production
traits in Serbian HF dairy cows and can be used to improve lactation performances in Serbian HF
cattle breeding programs.

AB  - Nosema ceranae, a microsporidian parasite, as one of the stressors that contribute to honey bee decline, has a significant negative impact on the longevity, productivity, and reproductive capacity of honey bee colonies. There are several different strategies for Nosema infection control, including natural-based and antibiotic-based products. In this study, we tested wormwood and oak bark-based supplement “Medenko forte” on survival, Nosema infection, oxidative stress, and expression of immune-related genes in artificially N. ceranae-infected bees. The results revealed a positive influence on the survival of Nosema-infected bees, irrespectively of the moment of supplement application (day 1, day 3, or day 6 after bee emergence), as well as reduction of Nosema loads and, consequently, Nosema-induced oxidative stress. Supplementation had no negative effects on bee immunity, but better anti-Nosema than immune-stimulating effects were affirmed based on expression levels of abaecin, defensin, hymenoptaecin, apidaecin, and vitellogenin genes. In conclusion, the tested supplement „Medenko forte” has great potential in the health protection of Nosema-infected bees. However, further investigations need to be performed to elucidate its mechanisms of action.

кључан за патогенезу и даљи развој болести. Реактивне врсте кисеоника (ROS)
које настају током инфламаторног одговора су важан део одбрамбених
стратегија организама за елиминацију паразита, али могу довести и до
оксидативног оштећења различитих молекула укључујући и ДНК. Ово може
резултирати појавом мутација, грешака у репликацији и нестабилности читавог
генома домаћина. Стога је циљ овог истраживања била процена степена
оштећења ДНК у леукоцитима паса инфицираних врстом D. immitis, пре, током
и након примене антипаразитске терапије, употребом in vivo комет теста.
Додатно, праћена је њихова осетљивост на присуство мутагена (H2O2) у ex vivo
комет тесту. Коришћени су узорци пуне крви од 34 пса пореклом из Србије,
старости од једне до 13 година, оба пола. Процена генотоксичности је показала
да инфекција узрокована врстом D. immitis доводи до оштећења ДНК код
природно заражених паса, при чему се највећа оштећења ДНК јављају у групи
паса са тежим клиничким знацима. Третман ивермектином и доксициклином
смањио је оштећење ДНК у леукоцитима паса у свим групама и то услед
смањења интензитета инфекције и оксидативног стреса. Резултати ex vivo комет
теста показали су повећану осетљивост леукоцита на оштећење ДНК изазвано
водоокник-пероксидом (H2O2) пре терапије, док је примењена терапија довела
до повећања резистенције леукоцита на оштећење ДНК. Добијени резултати
указују да је благовремено постављање дијагнозе и отпочињање терапије од
великог значаја за смањење доказаних негативих ефеката инфекције врстом D.
immitis, укључујући и оштећење ДНК домаћина.
AB  - Dirofilaria immitis is one of the most common parasites affecting domestic and wild
carnivores, and it is transmitted by mosquitoes from the genera Culex, Aedes and
Anopheles. In addition to adults localized in the pulmonary arteries, circulating
microfilariae also plays a significant role in triggering the host's inflammatory
response, which is crucial for the pathogenesis and further development of the disease.
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated during the inflammatory response are an
important part of the defense of the organism in the elimination of the parasites but
can also lead to oxidative damage of various molecules including DNA. This can
result in mutations, replication errors and instability of the entire host genome.
Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the level of DNA damage in
leukocytes of dogs infected with D. immitis, before, during and after the application
of antiparasitic therapy, using the in vivo comet assay. Additionally, their sensitivity
to the presence of a mutagen (H2O2) was monitored in the ex vivo comet test. Whole
blood samples from 34 dogs from Serbia, aged from one to 13 years, of both sexes,
were used. Genotoxicity assessment showed that D. immitis infection leads to DNA
damage in naturally infected dogs, with the greatest DNA damage occurring in the
group of dogs with severe clinical symptoms. Treatment with ivermectin and
doxycycline reduced DNA damage in dog leukocytes in all groups, and this was
consequently due to a reduction in the intensity of infection and oxidative stress. The
results of the ex vivo comet test showed an increased sensitivity of leukocytes to DNA
damage caused by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) before therapy, while the applied
therapy led to an increase in the leukocyte resistance to DNA damage. The obtained
results indicate that timely diagnosis and initiation of therapy is of great importance
in reducing the proven negative effects of D. immitis infection, including DNA
damage of the host.

The efficacy of intravenous application of the Mycobacterium Cell Wall Fraction (AMPLIMUNE) in the treatment of subclinical mastitis caused by S. Aureus

AB  - The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of the immunostimulant Mycobacterium Cell Wall Fraction (MCWF) on
the treatment of S. aureus SCM by intravenous application. The study included 45 HF dairy cows in 2nd and 3rd month
after parturition divided into three groups (n = 15 per group): the MC + group – cows with S. aureus SCM treated with
MCWF; the MC- group – cows with S. aureus SCM, with no treatment; and the C group – the control group of healthy
cow with no treatment. Samples were collected 0th (I sample), 7th (II), and 14th day (III) from the day of SCM diagnosis
and on day 21st (IV). A greater influx of leukocytes was confirmed into milk after 7 days after MCWF treatment in
MC + group, which was followed by increase of WBC and LYM in blood. These results support the hypothesis of effective
action of MCWF, and in quarters with lower-grade infection, bacteriological cure was achieved. The MC- group had
a statistically higher concentration of TBARS and CAT activity in milk, while MC + group had lower blood serum LDH
activity, which indicates a positive effect of the MCWF application and a lower exposure of the tissue to lipide peroxidation
and inflammation caused by S. aureus. The application of MCWF would give new possibilities in the prevention and
therapy of mammary gland diseases without fear of the presence of residues and the emergence of bacterial resistance.
In future studies, the effects of local and systemic application of MCWF in the treatment of S. aureus SCM should be
compared.

abstract = "The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of the immunostimulant Mycobacterium Cell Wall Fraction (MCWF) on
the treatment of S. aureus SCM by intravenous application. The study included 45 HF dairy cows in 2nd and 3rd month
after parturition divided into three groups (n = 15 per group): the MC + group – cows with S. aureus SCM treated with
MCWF; the MC- group – cows with S. aureus SCM, with no treatment; and the C group – the control group of healthy
cow with no treatment. Samples were collected 0th (I sample), 7th (II), and 14th day (III) from the day of SCM diagnosis
and on day 21st (IV). A greater influx of leukocytes was confirmed into milk after 7 days after MCWF treatment in
MC + group, which was followed by increase of WBC and LYM in blood. These results support the hypothesis of effective
action of MCWF, and in quarters with lower-grade infection, bacteriological cure was achieved. The MC- group had
a statistically higher concentration of TBARS and CAT activity in milk, while MC + group had lower blood serum LDH
activity, which indicates a positive effect of the MCWF application and a lower exposure of the tissue to lipide peroxidation
and inflammation caused by S. aureus. The application of MCWF would give new possibilities in the prevention and
therapy of mammary gland diseases without fear of the presence of residues and the emergence of bacterial resistance.
In future studies, the effects of local and systemic application of MCWF in the treatment of S. aureus SCM should be
compared.",

AB  - Govedarska proizvodnja je značajan izvor gasova sa efektom
staklene bašte, prevashodno metana, s obzirom da preko 20 % ukupne
globalne emisije ovog gasa potiče iz govedarske proizvodnje. U
proceni mogućnosti za smanjenje emisije metana sa farmi mora se
uzeti u obzir i proizvodnja. Zato se emisija metana najčešće izražava
po jedinici proizvoda, odnosno kilogramu dobijenog mesa ili mleka.
Preporučljivo je da se u obzir uzme i nutritivna vrednost proizvoda
i tada se emisija metana izražava po kilogramu otkoštenog mesa
ili kilogramu mleka korigovanog na standardan sadržaj masti i proteina
u mleku (3,5% i 3,02%, pojedinačno). Metodološki, procena emisije
metana od strane individualne životinje povezana je sa razvojem
osetljivih, specifičnih i pouzdanih metoda. Budući da najveći deo emisije
metana na govedarskim farmama čini enterički metan, razvoj metodologije
je napredovao u pravcu njegove detekcije i kvantifikacije u
izdahnutom ili podrignutom vazduhu. Na enteričku emisiju metana utiče
veliki broj faktora kao što su ishrana, genetika, zdravstveno stanje,
menadžment farme, što sugeriše da je strategije za smanjenje emisije
metana neophodno prilagoditi uslovima koji su karakteristični za određenu
farmu. Za veterinare praktičare je neophodno poznavanje ovih
faktora i primena metoda za njihovu manipulaciju i korekciju u cilju
uspostavljanja održive i ekološki prihvatljive govedarske proizvodnje.

AB  - Hromost goveda predstavlja značajan zdravstveni problem, a sa
aspekta ekonomskog značaja nalazi se odmah iza poremećaja u reprodukciji.
Prosečna incidenca hromosti na farmama mlečnih krava
je oko 7%. Međutim, ona se kreće u širokom rasponu od 5 pa sve do
60%, a stopa isključenja krava iz stada zbog oboljenja papaka je od
5 do 10%.
Razvoj hromosti kod mlečnih krava je uslovljena sinergističkim
delovanjem mnogobrojnih činilaca od izlaganja metaboličkom stresu
na početku laktacije, mehaničkom delovanju tvrdih i grubih betonskih
podova, kratkih ležišta, konstantnog izlaganja rožine papaka vlažnoj
prostirci, kao i neblagovremenog korigovanja rožine papaka ili nestručne
korekcije.
Veći udeo koncentrovanih hraniva bogatih energijom u odnosu
na kabasti deo obroka doprinosi pojavi oboljenja papaka, što ukazuje
da prevencija acidoze buraga u stadima predstavlja bitan činilac u
kontroli hromosti kod goveda. Sa intenziviranjem procesa fermentacije
lako svarljivih ugljenih – hidrata u buragu opada vredost pH sadržaja,
povećava se propustljivost sluzokože kako za endotoksine bakterija,
tako i za de novo sintetisane vazoaktivne amine (histamin, serotonin,
bradikinin) koji dovode do poremećaja mikrocirkulacije u korijumu
papaka. Supakutna acidoza buraga i metabolički poremećaji zdravlja
tokom rane laktacije su glavni etiološki činioci za bolesti papaka kako
neinfektivne, tako i infektivne etiologije.

AB  - The study aimed to determine the concentration of energy-related hormones in cow’s
milk and to consider them from a public health perspective. Fourteen Holstein cows
were subjected to milk and blood sampling on the following days in lactation (DIL):
10, 30, 60, 90, 150, 180, 210, 250 and 280 to determine milk hormones, fat and protein
content and blood biochemical parameters. For the same purpose, bulk-tank milk
was sampled and samples of retail milk with 1.5% (CM1.5) and 3.2% (CM3.2) fat was
purchased. Milk insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) values were significantly lower at
90, 150, 180, 210 and 250 and significantly higher at 10, 30 and 60 DIL than lactation
average (LA). Milk insulin concentrations were significantly lower at 30, 60 and 90 and
higher at 210, 250 and 280 DIL than LA. Free thyroxine (fT4) level in the milk was
higher at 250 DIL, while milk free triiodothyronine (fT3) concentrations were lower
at 30, 60, 90 and 280 DIL, and significantly higher at 10 and 180 DIL than respective
LA. Milk cortisol levels were lower at 60 and 280 DIL than LA. All measured milk
hormones were significantly lower in CM1.5 compared to CM3.2, bulk-tank milk and
LA. An exception was the LA of IGF-1, which was significantly lower than the IGF-
1 content in CM1.5. Blood biochemical parameters fluctuated evenly during lactation
and were within the reference range. Hormone concentrations in cow’s milk fluctuate
during lactation, giving milk an important role in the context of public health.

AB  - Due to their antiketogenic and antioxidant effects, chestnut
tannins may offer a viable approach to manage the impaired immune and
renal functions in transition cows. This study aimed to investigate the effects of
dietary supplementation with chestnut tannins on haematological, biochemical
and antioxidant indices, as well as cortisol levels in prepartum dairy cows.
Forty multiparous Holstein cows were divided into two homogeneous groups
(n = 20): a control (CON), and an experimental group (CNT) receiving
20 g/day of chestnut tannins for the last 25 ± 2 days of pregnancy. Haematological
and biochemical indices, cortisol concentration and total antioxidant capacity
(T-AOC) were measured in blood samples collected 25 (day −25) and 5 days
(day −5) before the expected parturition. The addition of chestnut tannins
exerted no significant effect on red blood cells indices; however, white blood cell

These data demonstrate that dietary chestnut tannin supplementation in a closeup
diet has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, and could potentially mitigate
immune suppression and kidney dysfunction near parturition. Further research
should be conducted concerning the mechanisms underlying these responses.

renal functions in transition cows. This study aimed to investigate the effects of

Forty multiparous Holstein cows were divided into two homogeneous groups

performed on breast m. pectoralis superfi cialis and profundus individually and together.
The studied leg muscles included biceps femoris, gastrocnemicus, iliotiobialis, peroneus longus,
sartorius, semimembranosus, semitendinosus and all leg muscles together. Flex broiler chickens
were fed diets supplemented with 6.7, 8.2, 9.7 and 11.2 g DL-methionine/kg feed and
Se as sodium selenite and selenized yeast at 0.26, 0.38 and 0.50 mg Se/kg. Greater
TEAC and enzyme activities were observed in leg than in breast muscles. Selenium
did not change TEAC in muscles sets, but improved antiradical capacity in the pectoralis
major and minor, sartorius and biceps femoris. The highest level of methionine increased
TEAC in individual leg muscles. Selenium and methionine at the highest concentrations
increased SOD activity in the entire group and individual muscles, while Se raised GPx
activity. In conclusion, the diet supplementation with selenium and high concentrations
of methionine had a greater impact on the antioxidative potential of individual than
the whole set of chicken breast and leg muscles. The positive effect of the studied diet
modulation could raise the quality and extend the shelf-life of fresh chicken meat.

parameters of hematological, biochemical, acid-base, and electrolyte status, which can
affect the health and athletic performance of the horse. This study’s objective was to
look at how submaximal exercise at the end of the racing season affected the horses’
hematological, biochemical, acid-base, and electrolyte status markers.
In this study, eight (n=8) trotters, aged 4±2 years, were involved. Venous blood samples
were drawn from each horse by jugular puncture before and after exercise to determine
hematologic, biochemical, acid-base and electrolyte parameters. The submaximal
physical exercise in this study was two intervals of 2,000 m of slow trotting and two
consecutive runs of 500 m at submaximal level. Hematocrit (HCT), red blood cell (RBC) and monocyte count, hemoglobin (HGB)
concentration, aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activity, and glucose concentration
increased significantly after the exercise. Additionally, significant decreases in venous
blood pH, bicarbonate (HCO3
-
) and total CO2 (TCO2) concentration, base excess of
the extracellular fluid (BEecf), and ionized Ca2+ (iCa2+) concentrations were established
after exercise. In contrast, partial pressure of CO2 (pCO2), total concentration of
weak acids (Atot), the anion gap (AG), and total protein and lactate concentrations
were significantly higher after exercise. Considering the significant changes in the
parameters of hematological, biochemical, and acid-base status after submaximal
exercise, determining those parameters would be useful for monitoring the health and
performance of trotters.

have an impact on global warming. This study aimed to investigate the effects of a dietary inclusion of brown seaweed Ascophyllum nodosum on enteric methane emissions (EMEs), hematological and blood biochemical profiles, and milk composition in dairy cows. Eighteen Holstein cows were divided into three groups: CON (non-supplemented cows), BS50 (50 mL of 10% A. nodosum), and BS100 (100 mL of 10% A. nodosum). In each cow, measurements of EME, dry matter intake (DMI), and milk yield (MY), as well as blood and milk sampling with respective analyzes, were performed before supplementation (P1), after 15 (P2) days, and after 30 (P3) days of supplementation. A. nodosum reduced (p < 0.05) methane production, methane yield, and methane intensity in both BS50 and BS100, and raised DMI (p < 0.05) only in BS50. Total bilirubin (p < 0.05) was higher in BS50 compared to CON cows in P2, and triacylglycerols were lower (p < 0.05) in BS50 than in CON cows in P3. Higher milk fat content was found in BS50 than in CON cows in P3. C16:0 proportions were higher (p < 0.05) in BS50 and BS100 than in CON cows, while C18:3n-3 was higher (p < 0.05) in BS100 than in BS50 and CON cows in P3. Dietary treatment with A. nodosum reduced EMEs and showed the potential to increase DMI and to improve energy status as well as milk composition in peaklactating dairy cows.

AB  - Dislokacija sirišta je značajan zdravstveni problem u patologiji
digestivnog trakta visokomlečnih krava. Ona predstavlja topografsku gastropatiju
koja se pojavljuje u više oblika: kao dislokacija sirišta na levo, dislokacija sirišta na desno
i torzija sirišta. Na nivou stada visokomlečnih krava, dislokacija sirišta je široko
rasprostranjeno oboljenje goveda, čija učestalost pojavljivanja iznosi oko 5%. Od ukupnog
broja obolelih životinja, prevalencija levostrane dislokacije iznosi oko 80%, dok se
ostali oblici promene položaja sirišta pojavljuju ređe. Pored direktnog uticaja na zdravstveni
status i smanjenje proizvodnje mleka kod obolelih životinja, ovo oboljenje ima i
negativan uticaj na plodnost krava. Tokom poslednjih šezdeset godina, razvijeno je više
metoda lečenja dislokacije sirišta, od konzervativnih do hiruških tehnika koje daju najviše
izgleda za povoljan ishod. Klasične hirurške metode lečenja imaju za cilj repoziciju
sirišta u anatomski normalan položaj i njegovu fiksaciju za abdominalni zid. Sa razvojem
savremenih tehnika u humanoj medicini, u poslednje dve decenije značajno mesto
u hirurškom trertmanu dislokacije sirišta zauzimaju i laparoskopske tehnike koje su
minimalno invazivne. U odnosu na klasične hirurške tehnike, laparoskopska fiksacija
sirišta ima nekoliko prednosti. Pored manje traume, bolja je abdominalna vizuelizacija,
jednostavna je za izvođenje, brza, manje stresna po životinju i primenljiva je u svim
terenskim uslovima.

abstract = "Dislokacija sirišta je značajan zdravstveni problem u patologiji
digestivnog trakta visokomlečnih krava. Ona predstavlja topografsku gastropatiju
koja se pojavljuje u više oblika: kao dislokacija sirišta na levo, dislokacija sirišta na desno
i torzija sirišta. Na nivou stada visokomlečnih krava, dislokacija sirišta je široko
rasprostranjeno oboljenje goveda, čija učestalost pojavljivanja iznosi oko 5%. Od ukupnog
broja obolelih životinja, prevalencija levostrane dislokacije iznosi oko 80%, dok se
ostali oblici promene položaja sirišta pojavljuju ređe. Pored direktnog uticaja na zdravstveni
status i smanjenje proizvodnje mleka kod obolelih životinja, ovo oboljenje ima i
negativan uticaj na plodnost krava. Tokom poslednjih šezdeset godina, razvijeno je više
metoda lečenja dislokacije sirišta, od konzervativnih do hiruških tehnika koje daju najviše
izgleda za povoljan ishod. Klasične hirurške metode lečenja imaju za cilj repoziciju
sirišta u anatomski normalan položaj i njegovu fiksaciju za abdominalni zid. Sa razvojem
savremenih tehnika u humanoj medicini, u poslednje dve decenije značajno mesto
u hirurškom trertmanu dislokacije sirišta zauzimaju i laparoskopske tehnike koje su
minimalno invazivne. U odnosu na klasične hirurške tehnike, laparoskopska fiksacija
sirišta ima nekoliko prednosti. Pored manje traume, bolja je abdominalna vizuelizacija,
jednostavna je za izvođenje, brza, manje stresna po životinju i primenljiva je u svim
terenskim uslovima.",

AB  - Svake godine svedočimo sve očiglednijim promenama klime, koje
pokazuju svoj poseban uticaj na epizootiološki trougao i njegove
determinante: prijemčivu vrstu, patogene mikroorganizme i okruženje,
odnosno sredinu u kojoj se ova interakcija ostvaruje. U fokusu svetske
naučne javnosti su istraživanja promena klimatskih obrazaca čiji se
uticaj sve češće dovodi u vezu sa interakcijama koje postoje između
patogena i domaćina. Klimatske promene koje nastaju kao posledica
jednog od najmarkantnijih fenomena poznatog kao El NINO (El Niño –
Southern Oscillation (ENSO), imaju kratkoročne, ali izrazite efekte na
vremenske prilike čije su posledice odstupanja od uobičajenih klimatskih
obrazaca. One podrazumevaju poplave, suše, promene spoljašnje
temperature u smeru sve toplijih leta i kao posledicu sve masovnije
i češće šumske požare, ali i izbijanja epidemija i epizootija. Ciklična
pojava ovakvih anomalija u prošlosti, dovodi se u vezu sa epizootijama
zaraznih bolesti poput kuge kopitara, groznice zapadnog Nila, groznice
doline Rift, hantavirusnih infekcija, malarije, kuge, kolere i nastajanjem
povoljnih ekoloških uslova za širenje areala vektora prenosioca
i rezervoara zaraznih bolesti. Na koji način podizanje temperature
vode u Tihom i Indijskom okeanu (ENSO), uz druge efekte čiji kombinovаni
i često nejasni uticaji na promene klime, ugrožavaju ne samo
biodiverzitet, dovode do epizootija, epidemija, i širenja areala prirodno
žarišnih infekcija, izazovi su sa kojima se susreće savremena nauka.

AB  - Brucella ovis infects sheep and causes a clinical or subclinical disease characterized by
genital lesions and reduced fertility in rams, placentitis and abortions in ewes, and
increased perinatal mortality in lambs. As part of this study, analyses were conducted
on a sheep farm near Belgrade (Serbia). Of the serological tests, indirect ELISA was
performed. A total of 94 blood sera were analyzed, 33 from rams and 61 from ewes.
The results showed 23 (69.7%) positive findings in rams and 2 (3.3%) positive findings
in ewes, with an overall prevalence of 25.4% bounded by a 95% confidence interval.
Bruce-ladder multiplex PCR and Real time PCR were performed on 19 serologically
positive rams and two serologically positive ewes. The results indicate a slightly
higher sensitivity of Real time PCR compared to conventional PCR in diagnosing
B. ovis from the reproductive tissues of rams. However, the differences in sensitivity
between different nucleic acid extraction protocols were not significant. Most rams
showed a positive PCR result in only one sample of reproductive tissue, suggesting the
recommendation to take multiple samples from each animal. Further research is needed
to bring the sensitivity of molecular tests in diagnosing ram epididymitis closer to the
sensitivity of serological tests.

Presence of Mycoplasma bovis in bulk tank milk and associated risk factor analysis in Serbian dairy farms

AB  - Mycoplasma bovis (M. bovis) is a significant pathogen responsible for highly transmissible
mastitis in cattle globally. It primarily spreads through colostrum, milk, and semen. Cows with
persistent infections act as carriers, intermittently releasing the pathogen, making their milk a pivotal
factor in infection transmission. Given the limited seroprevalence surveys in Serbia, this study aimed
to detect M. bovis presence in bulk tank milk (BTM), determine route shedding, and evaluate infection
risks. BTM samples were collected from 115 dairy farms across Serbia, with M. bovis DNA detected
in 11 out of the 115 samples by real-time PCR. Additionally, M. bovis was detected in 1.30% of nasal
swabs sampled from apparently healthy animals. A univariate analysis of the risk factors associated
with M. bovis presence in the BTM samples revealed correlations with factors such as the breed, farm
seropositivity, pre-milking and post-milking disinfection practices, farm type, cow population, milk
yield, number of cows in the BTM samples, and parity. Seropositive farms exhibited the highest
likelihood of M. bovis presence in milk. Moreover, pre- and post-milking disinfection practices and
highly productive cows yielding over 8000 L of milk were identified as risk factors for PCR-positive
BTM. In a multivariable mixed regression analysis, a risk factor for the presence of M. bovis infection
in the BTM sample was the Holstein breed. These findings underscore a relatively high prevalence
of M. bovis in BTM within Serbian dairy farms, suggesting a potential risk for M. bovis spreading
through milk and oral route of calves’ infection.

AB  - The control of parasitic nematode infections relies mostly on anthelmintics. The potential pharmacotherapeutic application of phytochemicals, in order to overcome parasite resistance and enhance the effect of existing drugs, is becoming increasingly important. The antinematodal effects of carveol was tested on the free-living nematode Caenorhabditis elegans and the neuromuscular preparation of the parasitic nematode Ascaris suum. Carveol caused spastic and geraniol atonic paralysis in C. elegans. In A. suum carveol potentiated contractions induced by acetylcholine (ACh) and this effect was confirmed with two-electrode voltage-clamp electrophysiology on the A. suum nicotinic acetylcholine receptor expressed in Xenopus oocytes. However, potentiating effect of carveol on ACh-induced contractions was partially sensitive to atropine, indicates a dominant nicotine effect but also the involvement of some muscarinic structures. The effects of carveol on the neuromuscular system of mammals are also specific. In micromolar concentrations, carveol acts as a non-competitive ACh antagonist on ileum contractions. Unlike atropine, it does not change the EC50 of ACh but reduces the amplitude of contractions. Carveol caused an increase in Electrical Field Stimulation-evoked contractions of the isolated rat diaphragm, but at higher concentrations it caused an inhibition. Also, carveol neutralized the mecamylamine-induced tetanic fade, indicating a possibly different pre-and post-synaptic action at the neuromuscular junction.

AB  - Parazitske nematode su značajni patogeni životinja i ljudi. Nažalost,
lekovi koji se koriste u farmakoterapiji helmintoza nisu apsolutno
efikasni i bezbedni protiv svih kombinacija vrsta parazita/domaćina.
Postoji jasna i hitna potreba za novim efikasnim antinematodnim jedinjenjima.
Ova potreba postaje sve važnija sa sve većim nivoom rezistencije
parazita na postojeće lekove. Većina anthelminika deluje na
neuromišićni sistem nematoda. Mi u projektu predviđamo da se dalje
ispita neuromišićni sistem na modelima parazitske nematode Ascaris
suum i slobodnoživuće nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. Fokusiraćemo
se na ispitivanje kombinaciju novih (muskarinski i serotoninski
receptori) i prethodno potvrđenih potencijalnih ciljnih mesta (jonotropni
nACh i GABA receptori). Predlažemo da se odredi lokalizacija ovih
receptora u somatskim mišićima A. suum metodom RNA-scope in situ
hibridizacije. Farmakološki ćemo okarakterisati ove receptore koristeći
kombinaciju studija pokretljivosti, testova faringijalnog pumpanja
(C. elegans), testova kontrakcije nervnomišićnog preparata (A. suum)
i elektrofiziološkim metodama “voltage“ i „current clamp“ sa dve elektrode
(A. suum). Koristeći ove tehnike, ispitivaćemo sledeće: 1. Efikasnost
kombinacija postojećih GABA-ergičnih i holinergičkih lekova u
cilju poboljšanja efikasnosti; 2. Potencijalno nove mete za anthelmintike
(muskarinski ACh receptor i serotonergički MOD 1 receptor); 3)
Prenamenu postojećih lekova koji ispoljavaju potencijalna anthelmintička
svojstva; 4) Antinematodna svojstva terpenoidnih aktivnih sastojaka
(AI) biljnih esencijalnih ulja i potencijal kombinacija AI i postojećih
lekova. Očekujemo da će naši rezultati pružiti precizniju karakterizaciju postojećih (holinergičkih i GABA-ergičnih) i potencijalnih (muskarinskih
i seretonergičkih) receptora za antiparazitske lekove. Utvrdićemo
da li neki stariji lekovi imaju potencijal da se ponovo koriste kao anthelmintici,
samostalno ili u kombinacijama.

AB  - Radionica na Katedri za farmakologiju i toksikologiju će se sastojati
iz četiri dela: novine u veterinarskoj farmakoterapiji, prezentacije
usavršavanja iz farmakologije i toksikologije, propisivanje lekova
na recept i praktičnog dela primera propisivanja različitih veterinarskih
i humanih lekova na veterinarski recept.
U veterinarskoj farmakoterapiji već duže vreme nema novih lekova.
Poslednji antibiotik koji je registrovan bio je tulatromicin još 2003.
godine. Međutim, pritisak da se ograniči i smanji primena antimikrobnih
lekova je sve veći. Komitet Evropskog parlamenta za životnu sredinu,
javno zdravlje i hranu (ENVI) je 13. jula 2021. godine, podneo
predlog rezolucije Evropskom parlamentu (EP), kojom se antimikrobni
lekovi označeni od strane Svetske zdravstvene organizacije (WHO)
kao grupa visokog prioriteta i kritične važnosti za zdravlje ljudi kompletno
zabrane za upotrebu u veterinarskoj medicini. Na sreću, posle
veliko angažovanja Federacije veterinara Evrope, ova rezolucija
je odbačena.
Više godina unazad ukazuje se sve veća potreba za profilisanjem
stručnjaka iz oblasti Veterinarske farmakologiuje i toksikologije
koji će svojim znanjem, a vremenom i iskustvom moći da zadovolje
zahteve nauke, struke, privrede i državnih institucija koje se bave registracijom,
kontrolom proizvodnjom i prometom veterinarskih lekova.
Stručno usavršavanje u vidu stručne specijalizacija iz Veterinarske
farmakologije i toksikologije, predviđeno usvojenim planom i programom,
a koje će se izvoditi na Fakultetu veterinarske medicine, Univerziteta
u Beogradu namenjeno je polaznicima sa završenim Fakutetom
veterinarske medicine, farmacije i medicine.
Propisivanje lekova na recept je po definiciji pisano uputstvo
doktora veterinarske medicine ovlašćenom licu u veterinarskoj i humanoj apoteci kako da spravi i izda lek. Takođe, na receptu se objašnjava
vlasniku životinje kako da primeni lek (ukoliko za to nije potrebno
stručno znanje). Sam postupak propisivanja lekova u veterinarskoj
medicini je privilegija i obaveza isključivo doktora veterinarske medicine.
Zadatak ovog dela radionice je da osvežimo informacije o pravilima
propisivanja lekova na recepet i ukažemo na novine u propisivanju.
