AB  - Otpornost na antibiotike u veterinarskoj profesiji, osim što progresivno otežava kontrolu zaraznih bolesti kod životinja, može povećati rizik da se rezistentni mikroorganizmi prenesu sa životinja na ljude bilo direktno – kontaktom ili hranom životinjskog porekla, ili indirektno – usled kontaminacije životne sredine (voda, vazduh, zemljište ili stajnjak). Pretnja od rezistencije na antimikrobne lekove je globalni zdravstveni problem, a zloupotreba lekova se često smatra glavnim faktorom. Prema tome, razumna upotreba antimikrobnih sredstava kod životinjskih vrsta u zatočeništvu (farmske životinje, životinje u zoovrtovima, kućni ljubimci i laboratorijske životinje) je najvažnija i trebala bi da se oslanja na efikasne strategije koje uključuju promovisanje dobrobiti životinja i biosigurnosne prakse. Antimikrobna rezistencija dovodi do neuspeha kliničke antimikrobne terapije i izaziva hitnu globalnu zabrinutost za javno zdravlje. Dok su antimikrobni lekovi bili redovni dodaci stočnoj hrani radi održavanja i poboljšanja zdravlja i produktivnosti životinja, njihova prekomerna upotreba u ishrani dovela je do porasta antimiktrobne rezistencije. Iako su preduzete mere za smanjenje nerazumne upotrebe antimikrobnih sredstava kroz različite politike i smernice, upotreba ovih lekova u neterapeutske svrhe kod životinja kao što su promovisanje rasta, profilaksa i metafilaksa, ostaje rasprostranjena u mnogim regionima sveta. Na primer, preventivne mere kao što su biosigurnost i vakcinacija, su neophodne, ali nisu dovoljne da obezbede visoke standarde u sistemima proizvodnje svinja. Restriktivno, nestimulativno okruženje i mnoge zootehničke prakse koje izazivaju bol i stres predisponiraju svinje na različite bolesti usled imunosupresije izazvane stresom. U tom kontekstu, antibiotici se koriste kao deo koji održava zdravlje i visok nivo proizvodnje na farmama svinja. Smatra se da se unapređenjem dobrobiti životinja u zatočenistvu i obezbeđenjem biosigurnosne prakse smanjuje upotreba antimikrobnih sredstava i promoviše zdravlje i produktivnost životinja. To uključuje različite mere koje se odnose na pravilne sanitarne uslove (dezinfekcija, dezinsekcija i deratizacija), efikasno čišćenje farmi (smeštaj u kojima obitavaju životinje), pozitivan odnos čoveka prema životinjama, obezbeđenje okruženja koje odgovara potrebama životinja u kojima će životinje moći da ispolje svoje prirodne oblike ponašanja na koje su visoko motivisane, da zadovolje odgajivačke i proizvodne ciljeve svojih vlasnika, a da pri tome ostanu fizički, bihejvioralno i emocionalno intaktne kao i mere radi sprečavanja unošenja i širenja infektivnih agenasa kao što su ograničeno kretanje, karantin, izolacija životinja, ograđivanje i transport. Veterinari su među malobrojnim zdravstvenim radnicima koji imaju ovlašćenje da prepisuju antibiotike u mnogim jurisdikcijama, što predstavlja značajnu odgovornost da se obezbedi razumna upotreba i minimizira rizik po javno zdravlje.

AB  - Stenice sa epidemiološko-epizootiološkog i ekonomskog aspekta predstavljaju važnu grupu hematofagnih insekata. U poslednje dve decenije zabeležena je povećana ekspanzija dve vrste stenica Cimex lectularius (krevetna stenica) i Cimex hemipterus (tropska stenica). Sa aspekta zdravlja ljudi i životinja stenice uzrokuju dermatološke promene, alergijske reakcije, a nekada i psihološke tegobe. Pored higijenskog i epidemiološko-epizootiološkog značaja nikako se ne smeju izostaviti direktni i indirektni ekonomski gubici koji nastaju prisustvom krevetnih stenica u stambenim i turističkim objektima. Poznavanjem bioloških karakteristika stenica, kao i primenom novih saznanja o postupcima monitoringa i suzbijanja, može se uspešno izvršiti regulacija brojnosti populacije ovih insekata u cilju kvaliteta života i zaštite zdravlja ljudi.

AB  - Korišćenje nanotehnologije kao alternativne strategije u kontroli komaraca može biti jedan od najperspektivnijih načina za prevazilaženje problema, koji nastaju upotrebom konvencionalnih hemijskih pesticida. Ekološki prihvatljiva i biorazgradiva metoda koja ne zahteva upotrebu toksičnih hemikalija, zelena sinteza nanočestica upotrebom aktivnih toksičnih agenasa iz biljnih ekstrakata dostupnih od davnina, pokazuje efikasnost protiv različitih vrsta komaraca vektora. Iako se još uvek suočava sa mnogim preprekama i neizvesnostima potrebno je više istraživanja da bi se poboljšao njen razvoj (evaluacija i regulacija), prednost nanotehnologije kao alternative za suzbijanje štetnih insekata je poveć anje efikasnosti protiv ciljnih organizama i niska toksičnost nanocida za neciljne organizame, uz veoma malu kolateralnu štetu po životnu sredinu. Obično koristeći soli metala u kombinaciji sa vodenim biljnim ekstraktima, sinteza ovih nanočestica je ekološki prihvatljiva i relativno jeftina. Nanotehnologija obezbeđuje selektivno, ciljano i dugoročno kontrolisano oslobađanje formulisanog nanomaterijala koji je ekološki održiviji.

AB  - Glodari predstavljaju najzastupljenije vrste sisara na planeti zemlji. Od svih vrsta sisara 44% njih čine glodari, a od svih glodara samo 5-10% se smatraju štetočinama u urbanim i ruralnim područjima. Prisustvo glodara u urbanim i u ruralnim ekosistemima ima veliki uticaj na javno zdravlje i ekonomiju. Urbanizacija je jedna od najbržih i najraširenijih promena životne sredine izazvana uticajem čoveka. Proces urbanizacije pored promene uslova životne sredine stvara i nove uslove i obilje novih resursa i mogućnosti preživljavanja, što omoguć ava glodarima da se veoma uspešno prilagode životu u gradovima gde se njihov broj može višestruko povećati. Prilagodljivo ponašanje je jedna od najvažnijih osobina koja omoguć ava životinjama da napreduju i opstaju u prisustvu ljudi. Kućni miševi koji su duže vreme u suživotu sa čovekom pokazuju bolje rezultate u rešavanju određenih prepreka koje ih vode do hrane, dok populacije sivih pacova koje žive u urbanim područjima imaju homogeniju i kvalitetniju ishranu, nego one populacije koje su živele van urbanih sredina. Konstantan porast broja stanovnika na zemlji, kao i u gradovima prati porast broja glodara što će usloviti deratizaciju kao ključnu preventivnu meru od štetnih efekata glodara. Proces kontrole i regulacija brojnosti glodara u budućnosti se mora prilagoditi uslovima sredine gde se deratzacija izvodi.

AB  - Širenje patogenih mikroorganizama se dešava na dva načina, direktnim i/ili indirektnim putem. Direktni put prenošenja infektivnih agenasa se najčešće događa nakon bliskog kontakta obolele sa prijemčivom jedinkom. Iako su indirektni putevi prenošenja patogenih mikroorganizama mnogobrojni, jedan od najznačajnih načina širenja patogenih mikroorganizama jesu putevi kojima posreduje čovek. To je razlog zašto higijena ruku predstavlja ključnu meru prevencije širenja patogenih mikroorganizama u veterinarskoj i u humanoj medicini. Redovnim pranjem i dezinfekcijom ruku zaposleni u veterinarskim ambulantama redukuju broj mikroorganizama čime smanjuju rizik od širenja infektivnih agenasa na njihove pacijente, vlasnike životinja i zaposlene. Osim ugrožavanja sopstvenog i tuđeg zdravlja nepravilna higijena ruku može negativno uticati i na reputaciju ambulante.

AB  - Budući da je savremeni način života nametnuo rad u zatvorenom prostoru, tj. kancelarijski rad kvalitet vazduha je od presudnog značaja za produktivnost radnika i njihovo zdravlje. Kako bi se sprečila pojava respiratornih oboljenja uzrokovanih patogenima iz vazduha neophodna je primena savremenih metoda prečišćavanja i dezinfekcije vazduha. Implementacija fotokatalitičkih sistema u procesima prečišćavanja i dezinfekcije vazduha predstavlja jednu od savremenijih metoda koja pokazuje veliku antimikrobnu efikasnost i nema negativnog uticaja na ljudsko zdravlje.

AB  - Počev od 2009. godine u Srbiji je na snazi Zakon o dobrobiti životinja i prateći pravilnici koji bliže određuju uslove za obezbeđenje dobrobiti pasa u smeštajnim objektima različite namene. Sa jedne strane, Zakon o dobrobiti životinja obavezuje lokalne samouprave da brinu o nezbrinutim psima čime su ove u obavezi da osnuju opštinska prihvatilišta za pse. Sa druge strane, raspoznavanjem smeštajnih objekata za pse, koje imaju različite uloge, Zakon o dobrobiti životinja je zainteresovao mnoge građane Srbije da započnu privatni posao osnivanjem privatnih prihvatilišta za nezbrinute pse, pansiona i odgajivačnica. Namena svih nabrojanih objekata je različita, ali i specifična, a zajednička osobina im je da se u njima drže psi različitih rasa, različite starosti i različitog pola. Ove osobine pasa mogu predstavljati predisponirajuće činioce za pojavu bolesti prouzrokovanih živim agensima, te je stoga neophodno u prihvatilištima, pansionima i odgajivačnicama primeniti odgovarajuće biosigurnosne mere, standarde i protokole kako bi se očuvalo njihovo zdravlje i obezbedila dobrobit pasa. Prihvatilišta predstavljaju objekte najvećeg rizika za pojavu bolesti prouzrokovanih živim agensima, ali rizik ništa manji nije ni u odgajivačnicama za pse gde se nalaze štenci različite starosti. Novorođeni štenci su pod velikim rizikom od razvoja bolesti prouzrokovanih živim agensima jer je njihov imuni sistem u razvoju, a imuna memorija ne postoji. Pojavi bolesti prouzrokovanih živim agensima pogoduje i stres, čiji su izvori različiti u različitim smeštajnim objektima i kojeg je nemoguće izbeći, ali se može minimalizovati. Upravo zato, biosigurnosne mere, standard i protokoli mogu doprineti očuvanju zdravlja i dobrobiti pasa u različitim smeštajnim objektima. Ove biosigurnosne mere se razlikuju od namene smeštajnog objekta za pse i o njima će biti reči u ovom radu.

AB  - Eggs have an important role in human nutrition and are an important source of protein, fat and trace
elements. The production and consumption of eggs in the world has been increasing in recent decades. The
consumption of eggs has long been associated with negative effects on human health, mainly due to their
cholesterol content. However, it is now known that the level of cholesterol in the serum is influenced by
several other factors such as genetic predisposition, hormonal status and eating habits, and not only cholesterol
from eggs. In recent years, the foods that are used daily in people’s diet are not only intended to satisfy the
needs in basic nutrients, but food is expected to prevent food-related diseases and acquire a better immune
status. By using specific nutritional strategies, it is possible to produce functional food that, in addition to basic
nutrients, also contains components that participate in preserving health and reducing the risk of disease. A
low concentration of selenium in the soil, and consequently in the nutrients used in feed, can cause a deficiency
of this microelement in animals. Deficiency symptoms also occur in humans through foods of animal origin,
which significantly weakens the system of antioxidant protection in the body. The utilization of selenium in
animals depends on the chemical form in which it is found in the meal. Selenium, which is used as an additive
in vitamin-mineral premixes in feed for laying hens, is present in one of two basic forms: organically bound
to amino acids (selenocysteine and selenomethionine) or in the form of an inorganic salt (most often sodium
selenite). After entering the body through a meal, selenium is incorporated into tissue proteins, which creates
its reserve. Deposited selenium in the body is in an inactive state and in cases of oxidative stress or selenium
deficiency in feed, it changes to an active form. The source of selenium in feed mixtures for laying hens has an
effect on the selenium content of eggs. By adding organic selenium to laying eggs, amounts of 20-25 μg per
egg can be achieved, which is about 30% of the recommended daily intake for humans. For the production of
such eggs, it is necessary to add organic selenium in the amount of 0.3-0.5 mg/kg to the laying feed. Organic
sources of selenium have better biological availability and the content of selenium in table eggs is more stable.

AB  - Ukrasne kućne biljke su potencijalna opasnost za zdravlje kućnih ljubimaca. Značajan broj ukrasnih vrsta biljaka je otrovan i njihova
konzumacija može dovesti do trovanja kućnih ljubimaca. Kućne biljke
sintetišu sekundarne metabolite kojima se štite od insekata i različitih parazita. Ti metaboliti, po hemijskom sastavu, najčešće pripadaju
alkaloidima, glikozidima, saponinima, fenolima ili terpenima. Većina
ovih metabolita je otrovna za ljude i životinje. Toksični efekti zavise
od vrste biljke, njene faze razvića, dela biljke unesenog u organizam i
unete količine. Neke ukrasne biljke deluju na kućne ljubimce samo iritirajuće i prouzrokuju pojačano lučenje pljuvačke, povraćanje i dijareju, dok druge imaju jako toksično dejstvo. Najčešći simptomi trovanja
ukrasnim biljkama su salivacija, povraćanje, otok jezika i grla, dijareja
i slabost. Poznavanje sobnih biljaka i načina na koji njihove supstance
mogu izazvati trovanje ljubimaca je veoma korisno jer omogućava lakše uspostavljanje dijagnoze i proces lečenja. Rad ima za cilj da upozori vlasnike kućnih ljubimaca i upozna veterinare sa najčešćim ukrasnim kućnim biljkama koje mogu izazvati epizode trovanje ljubimaca,
sa ciljem da se smanji njihova učestalost.

AB  - Pet food manufacturers aim to balance the palatability with the nutritional value of their products. Ensuring that young canines receive the best nourishment is crucial, while also promoting long-lasting engagement and satisfaction during mealtime. The study aimed to investigate if the nutritional content of food can affect food preferences in 2-month-old Sharplanina shepherd dogs and the development of neophobia when introduced to a new diet. Three different dietary plans were tested, each with varying percentages of an
imal-derived proteins (97% in A, 77% in B, and 94% in C). Observations of behavior were documented on camera at the beginning and end of a 10-day feeding cycle. The observations were made during the scheduled feeding times of 7 a.m., noon, and 5 p.m. According to the study, puppies showed neophobic behavior when a new diet was introduced. The puppies displayed a notable decrease in meal rate of
sumption, heightened distraction during diet consumption, and increased hesitation on the first day of each new diet, specifically on day 9 and day 10. Post-consumption interest peaked significantly on day 9 and day 10, particularly when dogs consumed diet C. Through the study, it was observed that Diet C had an impact on the puppies’ feed preferences, indicating a possible link between the diet’s nutritional content and their food preferences. Based on the study results, it appears that puppies need at least 9 days to reduce
phobia and adapt to new food flavors and feeding schedules.

Chestnut tannin supplementation can improve immune response and kidney function in prepartum dairy cows

AB  - Due to their antiketogenic and antioxidant effects, chestnut
tannins may offer a viable approach to manage the impaired immune and
renal functions in transition cows. This study aimed to investigate the effects of
dietary supplementation with chestnut tannins on haematological, biochemical
and antioxidant indices, as well as cortisol levels in prepartum dairy cows.
Forty multiparous Holstein cows were divided into two homogeneous groups
(n = 20): a control (CON), and an experimental group (CNT) receiving
20 g/day of chestnut tannins for the last 25 ± 2 days of pregnancy. Haematological
and biochemical indices, cortisol concentration and total antioxidant capacity
(T-AOC) were measured in blood samples collected 25 (day −25) and 5 days
(day −5) before the expected parturition. The addition of chestnut tannins
exerted no significant effect on red blood cells indices; however, white blood cell
(P = 0.02), lymphocyte (P = 0.05) and platelet (P < 0.01) counts were higher,
while the neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (P = 0.03) was lower on day −5 in the
CNT group compared to the CON group. Significantly higher values of T-AOC
(P = 0.03) and significantly lower levels of triglycerides (P = 0.03) and gammaglutamyl
transferase (P = 0.02) were also found in CNT compared to CON on
day −5. The improved haematological profile in CNT cows was accompanied
by lower serum creatinine concentration (P = 0.04), while total protein, calcium,
phosphorus and cortisol did not differ significantly between CNT and CON cows.
These data demonstrate that dietary chestnut tannin supplementation in a closeup
diet has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, and could potentially mitigate
immune suppression and kidney dysfunction near parturition. Further research
should be conducted concerning the mechanisms underlying these responses.

abstract = "Due to their antiketogenic and antioxidant effects, chestnut
tannins may offer a viable approach to manage the impaired immune and
renal functions in transition cows. This study aimed to investigate the effects of
dietary supplementation with chestnut tannins on haematological, biochemical
and antioxidant indices, as well as cortisol levels in prepartum dairy cows.
Forty multiparous Holstein cows were divided into two homogeneous groups
(n = 20): a control (CON), and an experimental group (CNT) receiving
20 g/day of chestnut tannins for the last 25 ± 2 days of pregnancy. Haematological
and biochemical indices, cortisol concentration and total antioxidant capacity
(T-AOC) were measured in blood samples collected 25 (day −25) and 5 days
(day −5) before the expected parturition. The addition of chestnut tannins
exerted no significant effect on red blood cells indices; however, white blood cell
(P = 0.02), lymphocyte (P = 0.05) and platelet (P < 0.01) counts were higher,
while the neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (P = 0.03) was lower on day −5 in the
CNT group compared to the CON group. Significantly higher values of T-AOC
(P = 0.03) and significantly lower levels of triglycerides (P = 0.03) and gammaglutamyl
transferase (P = 0.02) were also found in CNT compared to CON on
day −5. The improved haematological profile in CNT cows was accompanied
by lower serum creatinine concentration (P = 0.04), while total protein, calcium,
phosphorus and cortisol did not differ significantly between CNT and CON cows.
These data demonstrate that dietary chestnut tannin supplementation in a closeup
diet has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, and could potentially mitigate
immune suppression and kidney dysfunction near parturition. Further research
should be conducted concerning the mechanisms underlying these responses.",

these disorders. This study evaluated effects of taxifolin (dihydroquercetin) on ROS production, markers of
oxidative damage to lipids and proteins, activity of antioxidant enzymes and production of pro-inflammatory
cytokines in H2O2-induced oxidative stress in trophoblast HTR-8/SVneo cells. Taxifolin in 10 µM and 100 µM
concentrations attenuated oxidative damage to lipids and proteins, as evidenced by a decrease in MDA content,
extracellular LDH activity, carbonyl groups and nitrite contents. A reduction in the activity of antioxidant enzymes SOD, CAT and GPx in cells pre-treated with taxifolin, prior to H2O2 exposure, was also observed, along
with a reduction in intracellular ROS production. Both evaluated concentrations of taxifolin showed antiinflammatory activity in trophoblast cells, by reducing production of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and IL6. In this model of H2O2-induced oxidative stress, taxifolin showed marked antioxidative and antiinflammatory activities in trophoblast cells, adding further evidence of its protective effects and showing potential as a therapeutic agent in preventing adverse pregnancy outcomes.

Analiza parametara pokretljivosti i kinetike spermatozoida između rasa nerastova

AB  - Cilj rada bio je ispitivanje i poređenje parametara kinetike i pokretljivosti
spermatozoida četiri rase nerastova. Uključeno je bilo 34
nerasta: 8 pietrena, 10 jorkšira, 8 duroka i 8 landrasa, čije je seme
analizirano kompjuterski asistiranom analizom (CASA). Poređenjem
između rasa utvrđena je značajno viša ukupna i progresivana pokretljivost
kod duroka u poređenju sa rasom jorkšir (P < 0,05). Procenat
brzih spermatozoida bio je značajno viši kod rase durok u poređenju
sa rasom landras (P < 0,05). Kod rase landras utvrđena je značajno
viša (P < 0,05) procentualna zastupljenost sporih spermatozoida u poređenju
sa rasom durok. Vrednosti VCL kod duroka (P < 0,05) bile su
značajno više u poređenju sa landrasom. Signifikantno više vrednosti
(P < 0,05) VSL, VAP i DCL ustanovljene su kod rase durok u odnosu
na jokšir. Značajno više vrednosti ALH utvrđene su kod rase durok u
poređenju sa rasama jorkšir i landras (P < 0,01) i rasom pitren (P <
0,05). Značajno više vrednosti (P < 0,05) BCF utvrđene su kod rase
landras u poređenju sa rasom jorkšir. Rasa ima značajan uticaj kako
na osnovne parametre pokretljivosti spermatozoida tako i na sve ispitivane
parametre kinetike spermatozoida.

AB  - The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of the immunostimulant Mycobacterium Cell Wall Fraction (MCWF) on
the treatment of S. aureus SCM by intravenous application. The study included 45 HF dairy cows in 2nd and 3rd month
after parturition divided into three groups (n = 15 per group): the MC + group – cows with S. aureus SCM treated with
MCWF; the MC- group – cows with S. aureus SCM, with no treatment; and the C group – the control group of healthy
cow with no treatment. Samples were collected 0th (I sample), 7th (II), and 14th day (III) from the day of SCM diagnosis
and on day 21st (IV). A greater influx of leukocytes was confirmed into milk after 7 days after MCWF treatment in
MC + group, which was followed by increase of WBC and LYM in blood. These results support the hypothesis of effective
action of MCWF, and in quarters with lower-grade infection, bacteriological cure was achieved. The MC- group had
a statistically higher concentration of TBARS and CAT activity in milk, while MC + group had lower blood serum LDH
activity, which indicates a positive effect of the MCWF application and a lower exposure of the tissue to lipide peroxidation
and inflammation caused by S. aureus. The application of MCWF would give new possibilities in the prevention and
therapy of mammary gland diseases without fear of the presence of residues and the emergence of bacterial resistance.
In future studies, the effects of local and systemic application of MCWF in the treatment of S. aureus SCM should be
compared.

carski rez – Sectio Cesarea conservativa (laparotomia i hysterectomia), radikalni
carski rez – Sectio Cesarea radicalis (hysterectomia) i carski rez na životinji
koja uginjava – u cilju spašavanja ploda/plodova – Sectio Cesarea in moribunda sive
ante mortem. Kada je reč o kujama, beskrvne metode dovršetka porođaja kao što su:
korekcije, korekcije i ekstrakcije i ekstrakcije par force, često nisu realna mogućnost u
praksi. Razlog tome je pre svega veličina kuja, a i specifičnosti pojedinih rasa. Elektivni
(planirani) carski rez je zbog ovoga, a i iz drugih razloga, najbolja opcija za dovršetak
porođaja. Za elektivni carski rez je neophodna i saradnja vlasnika, koji nisu uvek kooperativni.
Kod brahicefaličnih rasa pasa, distokije su uobičajena pojava pa se planiranje
carskog reza kod gravidnih kuja pokazalo kao dobra praksa. Jedna od indikacija za planiranje
i izvođenje elektivnog carskog reza je i „sindrom jednog šteneta“ (engl. single
puppy syndrome). Pored pažljivog planiranja vremena za izvođenje carskog reza veoma
je bitna i priprema za samu operaciju. Pravilna premedikacija, dobar izbor anestezije,
operativna tehnika, kao i postoperativni tretman su od vitalnog značaja za ishod
operacije i dobrobit, kako majke, tako i štenadi.

AB  - The aim of this study was to determine the length of the contraceptive period after the
application of deslorelin implant (4.7 mg) in juvenile, prepubertal bitches and assess the
effects on the hormonal status (P4, E2 and melatonin), as well as on the occurrence
of normal physiological estrus. Twelve crossbred prepubertal female dogs (4 months
of age) were divided into the two groups, the treated group (DESLO) and control
(placebo) group (C). Hormone assays, vaginal microbiological and cytological smears
and the measurements of electrical resistance of cervical mucus were performed once
in 3 weeks until the first signs of proestrus, and every day during estrus. GnRH implant
significantly postponed time of onset of estrus (633 ± 30,38 days vs. 143.80 ± 52,30
days, P<0.001). In estrus, DESLO group showed statistically higher E2 (34.58 pg/mL
vs. 20.59 pg/mL, P<0.001) and melatonin serum concentration (45.86 pg/mL vs. 18.85
pg/mL, P<0.001) compared to the control group. The average P4 serum concentration
had no statistically significant differences between groups. In conclusion, deslorelin
implants do not cause “flare up” effect in perpubertal bitches, however, increase
of E2 and especially melatonin serum concentrations show the need to explore the
consequences and mutual influence of melatonin and deslorelin implants in the future.

AB  - Introduction. Although thrombocytopenia is one of the hematological markers associated with babesia infection, it may not always be present1. Hematological indexes: the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and the mean platelet volume-to-platelet ratio (MPV/PLT) may be more sensitive markers of an ongoing infection. Objective. To investigate PLR and MPV/PLT in dogs infected with Babesia spp. with and without thrombocytopenia. Methods. Babesia spp. PCR-positive client‐owned dogs were divided into two groups according to platelet number: thrombocytopenic (n=34) and non-thrombocytopenic (n=30). Clinically healthy PCR-negative dogs on Babesia spp. (n=41) served as a control. A complete blood count was obtained on IDEXX ProCyte hematology analyzer and the non-parametric statistics tests were performed in the SPSS program. Results. PCR-positive dogs on Babesia spp. had lower median platelet counts compared to PCR-negative dogs (P<0.01). The MPV and MPV/PLT were higher in thrombocytopenic than in non-thrombocytopenic (P<0.01) and control dogs (P<0.01). There was no difference in MPV between PCR-positive non-thrombocytopenic dogs and PCR-negative control, while the MPV/PLT ratio had differences (P<0.01). The median number of lymphocytes did not differ between the examined groups. The PLR was lower in the thrombocytopenic than in the non-thrombocytopenic (P<0.01) and control group (P<0.01). However, PLR did not differ between
PCR-positive and PCR-negative non-thrombocytopenic dogs. Conclusion. Ratios could be useful and should be explored further. The MPV/PLT has the potential to distinguish babesia-positive from babesia-negative dogs and its diagnostic value needs more attention.

AB  - Livestock producers need new technologies to maintain the optimal health and wellbeing of their animals while minimizing the risks of propagating and disseminating pathogenic and
antimicrobial-resistant bacteria to humans or other animals. Where possible, these interventions
should contribute to the efficiency and profitability of animal production to avoid passing costs on
to consumers. In this study, we examined the potential of nitroethane, 3-nitro-1-propionate, ethyl
nitroacetate, taurine and L-cysteinesulfinic acid to modulate rumen methane production, a digestive
inefficiency that results in the loss of up to 12% of the host’s dietary energy intake and a major
contributor of methane as a greenhouse gas to the atmosphere. The potential for these compounds
to inhibit the foodborne pathogens, Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Salmonella Typhimurium DT104,
was also tested. The results from the present study revealed that anaerobically grown O157:H7 and
DT104 treated with the methanogenic inhibitor, ethyl nitroacetate, at concentrations of 3 and 9 mM
had decreased (p < 0.05) mean specific growth rates of O157:H7 (by 22 to 36%) and of DT104 (by 16 to
26%) when compared to controls (0.823 and 0.886 h−1
, respectively). The growth rates of O157:H7 and
DT104 were decreased (p < 0.05) from controls by 31 to 73% and by 41 to 78% by α-lipoic acid, which
we also found to inhibit in vitro rumen methanogenesis up to 66% (p < 0.05). Ethyl nitroacetate was
mainly bacteriostatic, whereas 9 mM α-lipoic acid decreased (p < 0.05) maximal optical densities
(measured at 600 nm) of O157:H7 and DT104 by 25 and 42% compared to controls (0.448 and 0.451,
respectively). In the present study, the other oxidized nitro and organosulfur compounds were neither
antimicrobial nor anti-methanogenic.

Pojava dioksina, furana i polihlorovanih bifenila u hrani za životinje kao posledica narušenih ekoloških principa

AB  - Problem otpada je rastući problem u svetu. Većina svetskih propisa
ograničava mogućnost deponovanja otpada i bezbedno upravljanje
otpadom preusmerava na insineratore tj. spalionice otpada. Verovanje
da će spaljivanjem otpad nestati, dovelo je do masovne insineracije
kao široko rasprostranjene metode “odlaganja” svih vrsta otpada,
uključujući i opasan otpad kakav je medicinski i hemijski. Insineracijom
se smanjuje zapremina otpada, uništavaju se bakterije i virusi.
Nažalost, spaljivanje nije “čist“ proces i pored emisije gasova dolazi
do stvaranja velike količine pepela čije čestice na sebi nose veoma
toksične polutante kao što su polihlorovani dibenzo dioksini (PCDDi),
polihlorovani dibenzo furani (PCDFi). Radi se o nepolarnim, lipofilnim
jedinjenjima koja se lako akumuliraju u životnoj sredini, veoma su postojani
zbog čega predstavljaju opasnost po zdravlje ljudi. Osim u procesu
insineracije mogu nastati i u toku velikih šumskih požara ili u toku
nekih industrijskih procesa kao što je proizvodnja pesticida. U lanac
ishrane životinja dospevaju putem kontaminarane hrane tj. zemljišta i
biljaka koje ih bioakumuliraju. U lanac hrane ljudi dospevaju preko namirnica
animalnog porekla kao što su jaja, meso i životinjske masti.
Zbog velikog toksičnog i karcinogenog potencijala propisan je čitav
niz mera kontrole prisustva ovih veoma toksičnih jedinjenja u životnoj
sredini kao i hrani za ljude i životinje.

AB  - To improve the genomic evaluation of milk-related traits in Holstein-Friesian (HF) cattle it
is essential to identify the associated candidate genes. Novel SNP-based analyses, such as the genetic
mapping of inherited diseases, GWAS, and genomic selection, have led to a new era of research.
The aim of this study was to analyze the association of each individual SNP in Serbian HF cattle
with milk production traits and inbreeding levels. The SNP 60 K chip Axiom Bovine BovMDv3
was deployed for the genotyping of 334 HF cows. The obtained genomic results, together with the
collected phenotypic data, were used for a GWAS. Moreover, the identification of ROH segments
was performed and served for inbreeding coefficient evaluation and ROH island detection. Using a
GWAS, a polymorphism, rs110619097 (located in the intron of the CTNNA3 gene), was detected to be
significantly (p < 0.01) associated with the milk protein concentration in the first lactation (adjusted to
305 days). The average genomic inbreeding value (FROH) was 0.079. ROH islands were discovered
in proximity to genes associated with milk production traits and genomic regions under selection
pressure for other economically important traits of dairy cattle. The findings of this pilot study
provide useful information for a better understanding of the genetic architecture of milk production
traits in Serbian HF dairy cows and can be used to improve lactation performances in Serbian HF
cattle breeding programs.

AB  - Dogs are the most popular pets worldwide. Close contact between dogs and people
increases the risk of transmission of various zoonotic parasitic infections. Given the importance of
veterinary medicine in preserving the One Health concept, the aim of this research was to identify
intestinal parasites that may have zoonotic potential and to evaluate risk factors (individual and
environmental). The research was conducted in Serbia in 2022 and 2023 on 382 owned dogs, using
qualitative methods of coprological examination with a concentration on parasitic elements. The overall
prevalence of intestinal parasites was 62.6%, with the following detected: protozoa: Cystoisospora
spp. (9.2%), Sarcocystis spp. (4.5%), Neospora caninum/Hammondia spp. (3.7%), Giardia intestinalis
(11.8%); nematoda: Toxocara canis (11.5%), Toxascaris leonina (4.2%), family Ancylostomatidae (38.0%),
Trichuris vulpis (21.5%), Capillaria spp. (10.5%); trematoda: Alaria alata (1.6%) and cestodes from the
Taeniidae family (1.3%). Factors like age, size and coat length, as well as the way of living, attitude
and diet were linked to a significantly higher (p < 0.05) prevalence of intestinal parasites. Based on the
results of coprological diagnostics, this research indicates the importance of educating dog owners,
conducting routine parasitological tests on their pets and regular deworming strategies.

Истраживање је спроведено на територији Републике Србије на 382 власничка пса у току 2022. и 2023. године, квалитативним методама копролошке дијагностике са концентрацијом паразитских елемената. Укупна преваленција интестиналних паразита је била 58,7%, а утврђене су протозое: Cystoisospora spp. (9,2%), Sarcocystis spp. (4,5%), Neospora caninum/Hammondia spp. (3,7%), Giardia intestinalis (11,8%); нематоде: Toxocara canis (11,5%), Toxascaris leonina (4,2%), фам. Ancylostomatidae (38,0%), Trichuris vulpis (21,5%), Capillaria spp. (10,5%), трематода Alaria alata (1,6%) и цестоде фамилије Taeniidae (1,3%). Анализом индивидуалних фактора ризика, значајно виша (p<0,05) преваленција интестиналних паразита је утвђена код паса млађих од једне године (83,3%) и код паса старости од једне до пет година (64,4%). Анализом фактора ризика средине, значајно више (p<0,001) преваленцијe су утврђене у категоријама паса који се држе напољу (67,7%) и код паса који се држе у затвореном простору и напољу (72,0%), као и код категорије ловачких паса (81,6%). Додатно, значајно виша (p<0,05) преваленција интестиналних паразита је установљена и у категорији паса који се хране мешовито (72,5%). Резултати овог истраживања сугеришу да је неопходна едукација власника, спровођење редовних паразитолошких прегледа власничких паса и дехелминтизација у складу са налазима добијене копролошке дијагностике.

By analyzing the environmental risk factors, a significantly higher (p<0.001) prevalence was found in the dogs that were kept outdoor (67.7%) and indoor/outdoor (72.0%), as well as in the category of hunting dogs (81.6%). Additionally, a significantly higher (p<0.05) prevalence of intestinal parasites was found in the category of dogs fed combined diet (72.5%). Based on the results of coprological diagnostics, this research indicates the importance of educating dog owners, conducting routine parasitological tests on their pets and regular deworming strategies.
